The University of Botswana (UB), a premier state-owned tertiary institution dedicated to shaping the future through excellence, research, innovation and meaningful societal impact, invites applications from accomplished and suitably qualified professionals for the position of Senior Professional: Business Partnering in the Department of Human Resources.
The Senior Professional: Business Partnering will be responsible for providing comprehensive, proactive and integrated HR business partnering advisory services to line management and employees in faculties and departments to drive strategic goals through resource alignment. The position holder will coordinate the delivery of HR services and provide recommendations on how to enhance people management practices within the business unit.
Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to:
Strategies and Policies: (i) Contribute to and implement departmental, sectional, and unit strategies, policies, plans, and procedures. (ii) Stay updated with industry trends to drive continuous improvement and innovation.
Change Management: (i) Participate in the delivery of University-wide training programs and change management workshops. (ii) Disseminate information on work structure changes to faculty/departmental employees.
HR Business Partnering Operations: (i) Collaborate with HR units to develop value-added programs in areas of training, development, career mobility and job performance. (ii) Support and guide business units on matters pertaining to employment, benefits, compensation, employee and labor relations, training, new employee orientation, employment records, payroll and other related matters. In particular, services in relation to: (a) Recruitment: (i) Apply recruitment and selection strategies to attract, recruit, and retain a qualified, diverse workforce for the Business Partnering Unit. (ii) Review and update job requirements and advertisements to align with changing labour market demands. (iii) Implement modern recruitment tools and systems to build quality talent pools, support succession planning, and ensure alignment with the UB Competency Framework. (iv) Coordinate interviews, provide timely feedback to candidates, and represent the Director, Human Resources at recruitment and onboarding meetings when required. (v) Maintain accurate recruitment and selection records to support reporting and policy review;(b) Training and Development: (i) Participate in identifying key skill gaps to support training plans and succession planning. (ii) Monitor implementation of training programmes to ensure alignment with departmental needs and the University’s people development strategy. (iii) Orient new faculty employees on HR policies, guidelines, and regulations to promote compliance and consistency across the University; (c) Onboarding: (i) Implement the Onboarding activities of the faculty/department. (ii) Prepare and conduct orientations or workshops on policies, guidelines and regulations to ensure compliance, consistency and integration into the University, faculties and departments. (iii) Ensure that all required paperwork and onboarding is completed by new employees; (d) Performance Management: (i) Document and report on performance management outcomes across faculties/departments to support succession planning, employee retention, and training and development initiatives. (ii) Facilitate training for new employees on performance management policies, guidelines, regulations, and system usage to enhance workplace productivity; (e) Employee Relations: Participate and provide guidance in liaison with the relevant office in disciplinary, mediation, grievance management and reconciliation meetings.
Other Duties: (i) Prepare HR reports and recommendations based on feedback and data collected from business partnering departments/faculties and employees. (ii) Enhance employee awareness of university HR services, improve HR-related knowledge, and support the achievement of HR strategic goals. (iii) Participate in the identification and mitigation of operational risks. (iv) Respond to customer/ stakeholder queries and inquiries related to area of expertise.
Qualifications Requirements: A Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field is required.
Experience: (i) A minimum of four (4) years' experience, three (3) of which should have been at a level lower. (ii) Higher education experience will be an added advantage.
Other Requirements: (i) Strong understanding of HR principles, practices, and employment law. (ii) Excellent communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills. (iii) Proven ability to build effective relationships and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization. (iv) Demonstrated strategic thinking, problem-solving, and project management skills.
