RESEARCH MEDICAL OFFICER - INTERNAL MEDICINE

VACANCY NO: FM/DIM  03/2022 - RESEARCH MEDICAL OFFICER

We are a dynamic team of researchers based at the University of Botswana, the Botswana Harvard AIDS Partnership and the Ministry of Health primarily focused on improving health outcomes for people living in Botswana and the Region.

We seek hardworking, conscientious professionals with attention to detail, good interpersonal skills, work ethic and a keen interest in research to join our team in the following positions:

Key Performance Areas

The successful appointee will be required to perform tasks necessary for the safe and complete delivery of the procedures outlined in study protocols to the highest standard.

Amongst other responsibilities, they will be required to:

  • Contribute to the day-to-day management of all active trials, ensuring compliance with international standards of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) with the Management Team
  • Assist in the preparation of study materials
  • Assist in all clinical aspects of active studies ensuring that they are carried out within the Hospital’s and Sponsor’s policies, research governance, Botswana Medicines Regulatory Authority, and Amended Regulations 2006 Incorporating International Conference on Harmonisation of Good Clinical Practice (ICH GCP) and any other applicable laws and regulations
  • Play an active role in the study team to ensure that;
    • The clinical team adheres to the set standard operating procedures in the conduct of clinical trials and that all staff are full trained in the SOPs pertaining to their daily work.
    • The data collection process is enhanced for quality with quality control measures in place.
    • The recruitment/ accrual targets are being met.
    • Proper source documentation procedures are followed timeously.
  • Liaise with data team to ensure there is updated data analysis plan
  • Lead in the drafting and or amendment of study protocol in consultation with the study Principal Investigator.
  • Initiate writing, refining and submission of manuscripts to relevant journals in liaison with the study Principal Investigator.
  • Prepare relevant training materials, as well as conduct trainings to facilitate study protocol implementation.
  • Contribute to the resolution of any ensuing data queries in a timely manner
  • Make presentations on behalf of study team at local and international fora

Supervise nursing and clinical study teams and ensure that they are trained in SOPs pertaining to their daily work

  • Oversee all clinical procedures including dispensing of study drugs to study participants, collection of laboratory samples, and other protocol-related procedures
  • Any other duties as requested by the Chief Investigator.

Qualifications and experience

  • Medical degree e.g. MD, MB ChB, MBBS.
  • At least three(3) years working experience post qualification
  • Training and experience in HIV/AIDS management
  • Post graduate training in research will be an added advantage
  • Must be knowledgeable on HIV/AIDS prevention and care
  • Must be registered with the Botswana Health Professions Council( BHPC)

 Competencies

 Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Excellent time management
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Computer literate
