DEPUTY VICE CHANCELLOR – RESEARCH & ENTERPRISE

The University of Botswana wishes to invite suitable applicants for the position of Research Coordinator at the Institute for Combating Illicit Financial Flows (ICIFF).

Fixed contract position: Appointment will be on a fixed term contract of between twenty-four (24) and sixty months (60).

Main purpose of the job: The Research Coordinator is responsible for designing, executing empirical studies, developing and undertaking multidisciplinary Research in the Financial / Economic Crimes fields. This role works closely with the office of Deputy Vice Chancellor, Research and Enterprise (DVC R&E) to collaborate and research on critical areas to combat illicit financial flows.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to: i) Work with the ICIFF Director to contribute to the development, implementation, monitoring and review of the Institute’s research strategies, policies, plans and procedures; ii) Provide leadership in the conduct of high quality research ensuring compliance with protocols, regulations, international standards and practices; iii) Participate in developing research designs, data collection methods and strategies for data management; iv) Coordinate multiple data collection efforts which may include other collaborating agencies or institutions; v) Ensure research outputs that will enhance the national agenda of combatting illicit financial flows; vi) Coordinate the Institute’s projects, and events including seminars, workshops, and generation of research-related reports vii) Monitor and evaluate the performance of the Institute’s research function identifying areas of improvement and initiating corrective actions needed; viii) Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and address national needs through relevant research; ix) Participate in developing the Institute’s budget and effective management of resources; x) Undertake any other duties as directed by the supervisor.

Position Requirements:  The requirements commensurate with the duties of the position are: (i) A relevant Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Law or other related fields is required.  PhD qualification in any of these disciplines will be an added advantage; (ii) A minimum of six (6) years relevant experience, three (3) of which should have  been at a managerial level (middle management is required; (iii) Must demonstrate knowledge and skills in conducting/leading/coordinating research; (iv) Higher education experience is preferred; v) Must demonstrate interest, competency, and ability to conduct research on  Financial / Economic Crimes vi) Experience in managing  financial,  human resources and effective communication is required.
