RESEARCH ASSISTANT – PART-TIME

The Penn Global Rehabilitation Programme wishes to invite suitable applicants for the position of Research Assistant. We seek outstanding dynamic, self-motivated & qualified individuals:

Reports to:                           Research Coordinator and PI/Director 

Hours:                                   20 hrs/week (with potential for full-time hours)

Position Location:                         University of Botswana

Position Description:

The Penn Global Rehabilitation (PGR) programme is a collaborative initiative between the University of Botswana and the University of Pennsylvania. The programme consists of two core components: (i) a residency rotation where University of Pennsylvania Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation residents are exposed to Botswana’s rehabilitation landscape through participation in interdisciplinary patient care and teaching at various hospitals in Gaborone, Mahalapye, and Maun, and (ii) a service & research initiative aimed at improving access to affordable, quality prosthetic devices and services for Batswana living with lower limb amputations.

Key Performance Areas: 

  1. Assisting with participant recruitment, pre-screening, and consenting 
  2. Data cleaning, data management, and data entry on Redcap 
  3. Assisting with the design of the database on Redcap. 
  4. Coordinating all PGR activities
  5. Engaging with participants on the prosthetics care group 

 

Core Competencies and Skills:

  1. High level of integrity and respect for confidentiality in handling information.
  2. Strong organizational and time management skills.
  3. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including patient engagement.
  4. Ability to draft research manuscripts
  5. Attention to detail, particularly in data entry, data quality and record management.
  6. Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable working with databases and online tools.
  7. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a health, social science, or a related field.
  • Experience working in a clinical, rehabilitation, or research setting.

Added Advantage:

  • Experience working with people with physical disabilities or limb loss.
  • Familiarity with the research process and use of REDCap.
  • Ability to organize seminars and other meetings.
