The University of Botswana (UB), a premier state-owned tertiary institution dedicated to shaping the future through excellence, research, innovation and meaningful societal impact, invites applications from accomplished and suitably qualified professionals for the position of Psychologist in the Department of Student Life and Experience.
The Psychologist provides psychological services to students, addressing their mental health needs. The incumbent will conduct individual and group therapy sessions, develop treatment plans and collaborate with other mental health professionals to ensure comprehensive support.
Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to; (i) Provide psychological services to students dealing with personal, emotional, academic and interpersonal challenges. (ii) Conduct assessments and provide treatment programmes/ plans to address student challenges or difficulties. (iii) Provide resources that are helpful to students in their social, psychological and emotional adjustment. (iv) Liaise with faculties and University staff to address issues of mental health in the university. (v) Make appropriate referrals to specialized services or outside resources. (vi) Maintain accurate and confidential records of sessions and interventions provided (vii) Provide crisis intervention to students who are going through mental health issues or traumatic experiences. (viii) Conduct assessments of students with special needs and develop recommendations for appropriate mental health, educational and rehabilitation interventions. (ix) Assist in the development and implementation of mental health awareness and education programs. (x) Help to organize seminars, outreach, and initiatives to improve wellbeing and reduce stigma. (xi) Participate in activities that raise mental health awareness. (xii) Provide consultative services to the university, community agencies and health organizations.
Qualification Requirements: Applicants should have (i) A Masters’ degree in Clinical, Counselling Psychology or related qualifications is required. (ii) Professional license, in good standing, with Botswana Health Professions Council (BHPC) or eligibility to register is required.
Other Requirements: i. Strong clinical skills, including psychological assessments and diagnosis. ii. Excellent in communication, interpersonal and crisis intervention skills.
Work Experience: Not required.
