PROFESSOR/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/SENIOR LECTURER OF TECTONICS AND/OR STRUCTURAL GEOLOGY

FACULTY OF SCIENCE

VACANCY NO. FSc/G 3/2018: PROFESSOR/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/SENIOR LECTURER OF TECTONICS AND/OR STRUCTURAL GEOLOGY, DEPARTMENT OF GEOLOGY

Duties: The successful candidate will be required to (i) teach courses in Structural Geology, Regional Geology and Tectonics at undergraduate and graduate levels, (ii) attract both undergraduate and graduate students for thesis supervision, (iii) conduct research in their area of specialization as well as in multidisciplinary areas, (iv) provide service to the community in the line of their specialization, and (v) provide academic leadership and mentoring of junior staff in the department, and (vi) carry out any other duties as may be assigned by the Head of Department from time to time.

Requirements: 

Professor: candidates should (i) hold at least a Masters Degree in Structural Geology or Tectonics; (ii) have at least 8 years of teaching experience in a university or comparable institution; (iii) have a good and sustained record of research and publications with at least 24 publications, 12 of which should be refereed journal articles reflecting a spread of national regional and international journals and/or publishing outlets; (iv) lead and/or single author in at least 10 refereed articles or book chapters; (v) show evidence of service to the university, the profession, and the community; (vi) show evidence of effective academic leadership. The following will be added advantages: a relevant PhD; a profile that reflects the ability to attract research funding from international sources; In-depth knowledge of the Geology of Southern Africa and the mining legislation of Botswana.

Associate Professor: candidates should  (i) hold at least a Masters Degree in Structural Geology or Tectonics; (ii) have at least 5 years of teaching experience in a university or comparable institution; (iii) have a good and sustained record of research and publications with at least 12 publications, 8 of which should be refereed journal articles reflecting a spread of national regional and international journals and/or publishing outlets; (iv) lead and/or single author in at least 6 refereed articles or book chapters; (v) show evidence of service to the university, the profession, and the community; (vi) show evidence of effective academic leadership. The following will be added advantages: a relevant PhD; a profile that reflects the ability to attract research funding from international sources; In-depth knowledge of the Geology of Southern Africa and the mining legislation of Botswana.

Senior Lecturer: candidates should (i) hold at least a Masters Degree in Structural Geology or Tectonics; (ii) a Bachelors Degree in Geology or related field with at least a second class, first division (2.1) pass/GPA of at least 3.6 or equivalent; (iii) have at least 3 years of teaching experience in a university or comparable institution; (iv) have a good and sustained record of research and publications with at least 6 publications, 4 of which should be refereed journal articles reflecting a spread of national regional and international journals and/or publishing outlets; (v) lead and/or single author in at least 2 refereed articles or book chapters; (vi) show evidence of engagement in service.

The curriculum vitae (CV) should contain a detailed list of publications; clearly specifying tittles of publications, dates published, name(s) of publishers and name(s) of co-authors if any. Publications should be categorized into: books, monographs, refereed and non-refereed journals, chapters in books, etc.
