Professor/Associate Professor, Department Of Paediatrics And Adolescent Health (1 position)

Vacancy No. FM/PAH 1/2018: Professor/Associate Professor, Department Of Paediatrics And Adolescent Health (1 position)

Duties: The successful candidates will teach undergraduates and graduate students, conduct research, provides academic leadership and clinical care in affiliated health care facilities including hospitals and clinics. Consideration for appointment will take into account relevant qualifications, teaching, clinical and research experience.

Requirements: to qualify for appointment at each rank the applicant must:

Professor: i) have a Bachelor of Surgery and Bachelor of Medicine (MBBS) or MD and formal qualification as a paediatrician, ii) have at least 24 publications, 12 of which must be in peer reviewed journals, iii) be first and/or single author in at least 10 journal articles or book chapters, iv) have at least 8 years of University teaching experience or equivalent, v) demonstrate effective academic leadership, vi) demonstrate evidence of service to the University, the profession and the community. Subspecialty experience or training in any of the following subspecialties will be an added advantage: (a) Adolescent Health (b) Neonatology (c) Paediatric Nephrology (d) Paediatric Gastroenterology (e) Paediatric Infectious Disease (f) Allergy and Immunology (g) Paediatric Critical Care and or Pulmonology (h) Paediatric Neurology.

Associate Professor: i) have a Bachelor of Surgery and Bachelor of Medicine (MBBS) or MD and formal qualification as a paediatrician, (ii) have at least 12 publications, 8 of which must be in peer reviewed journals, iii) be first and/or single author in at least 6 journal articles or book chapters, iv) have at least 5 years of university teaching experience or equivalent v) demonstrate effective academic leadership, vi) demonstrate evidence of service to the university, profession and community. Subspecialty experience or training in any of the following subspecialties will be an added advantage: (a) Adolescent Health (b) Neonatology (c) Paediatric Nephrology (d) Paediatric Gastroenterology (e) Paediatric Infectious Disease (f) Allergy and Immunology (g) Paediatric Critical Care and or Pulmonology (h) Paediatric Neurology.

For candidates to be considered for appointment they must undergo and pass a registration examination with the Botswana Health Professions Council. Candidates with up to 5 years post-specialization experience will have to sit for a general medicine written (MCQs) and oral exam in addition to an oral specialist examination. Candidates with more than 5 years post-specialization experience will have to sit for an oral specialist examination only.

For all the above positions, the curriculum vitae (CV) should contain a detailed list of publications: clearly specifying titles of publications, dates published, name(s) of publishers, name(s) of co-authors if any, and number of pages. The publications should be categorized into: books, monographs, chapters in books, refereed and non-refereed journals, consultancies etc. The CV should also have a detailed list of courses taught and the levels for which they were taught.
