PROFESSOR

Duties: The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate students, conduct research, provide academic leadership and clinical care in affiliated health care facilities. Consideration for appointment will take into account relevant qualifications, teaching, clinical and research experience.

Requirements: Applicants must: (i) have a Bachelor of Surgery and Bachelor of Medicine (MBBS) or MD and formal qualification as an Obstetrician and Gynecologist; (ii) at least 8 years of teaching experience at a University or comparable institution; (iii) a good and sustained record of research and publications with at least 24 publications, 12 of which should be refereed journal articles; lead and/or single author in at least 10 refereed journal articles or book chapters; (iv) evidence of service to University, the Profession and the Community; (v) evidence of effective academic leadership; (vi) Subspecialty experience or training in any of the following subspecialties will be an added advantage: Maternal fetal Medicine; Reproductive Health Medicine; Gynaecologic Oncology; Urogynaecology. The curriculum vitae (CV) should contain a detailed list of publications; clearly specifying titles of publications, dates published, name(s) of publishers and name(s) of co-authors if any. Publications should be categorized into: books, monographs, refereed and non-refereed journals, chapters in books, etc. The CV should also have a detailed list of courses taught and the levels at which they were taught.

For candidates to be considered for appointment they must undergo and pass a registration examination with the Botswana Health Professions Council. Candidates with up to 5 years post-specialization experience will have to sit for a general medicine written (MCQs) and oral exam in addition to an oral specialist examination. Candidates with more than 5 years post-specialization experience will have to sit for an oral specialist examination only.
