Applications are invited for the position of Professor in Archives and Records Management.
Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to: (i) teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of archives and records management with particular reference to any three or more of the following courses: Archival Arrangement and Description, Archival Reference Services, Electronic Records Management, Disaster Planning and Preparedness, Applications of Computers in Archives and Records Management, Content Management, Research Methods, Preservation and Conservation; Digital Archives (ii) supervise undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate research projects; (iii) initiate, promote and participate in research activities in archives and records management; (iv) provide academic leadership and act as a mentor to junior academic staff; (vi) raise/solicit research funds from funding agencies within and outside the country; (vii) develop collaborative relationships with other colleagues in academia and industry within and outside the country; (viii) participate in all academic and professional activities of the department; and (ix) carry out any other academic and administrative responsibilities as and when assigned by the Head of Department.
Professor Requirements: Candidates should have a (i) PhD in Archives and Records Management, or in Library and Information Studies, Information Systems, Information Science, or Information Management from a reputable university or institution; (ii) at least 9 years relevant teaching experience at a university or comparable institution; (iii) an excellent cumulative and sustained record of research and publications with at least twenty four (24) pieces of research products (e.g. articles, book chapters, peer reviewed conference proceedings, etc), published by recognized publishers. Twelve (12) of which must be articles in referred/accredited journals in internationally recognized indexing databases. The remaining twelve (12) publications could be journal articles, book chapters, peer-reviewed conference proceedings etc. published by recognized publishers. An academic book may be equivalent to a maximum of four (4) articles in refereed/accredited journals, depending on the quality and standing of the publisher; (iv) sustained research output: a minimum of three (3) peer reviewed publication every four (4) years; (vi) sustained research activity; ongoing externally supported research (e.g. funded or commissioned); (vii) regular scholarly paper/poster presentations at national and/or international conferences; (viii) be lead and/or single author in at least one-quarter (¼) of the journal articles; ix) publications should be spread internationally and across journals; (x) There should also be some evidence of mentoring of early career scholars/graduate students ; (xi) significant research impact, including but not limited to citations, the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, publications that are prescribed texts in other institutions etc., (required in at least 3 of the these); (vii) Acknowledged by peers as being of national and international research standing (e.g. peer reviewing of new research proposals; reference in research committee; editor/guest editor/reviewer for refereed/accredited national and international publishers; editorial board member of international publishers in a relevant field; invitations as keynote speaker at national and international conference, (required in at least 3 of the these); (xiii) research collaborations with other institutions or organisations (required); and research collaborations with cognitive disciplines in the University (required) (xiv); successful supervision of Masters and PhD students; (xv) external examiner for Masters and/or PhD theses nationally and/or internationally (required); (xvi) registered or eligible for registration with Botswana Qualifications Authority as an Assessor and Moderator; and (xvii) evidence of significant and effective academic leadership through programme development and research; (xviii) research awards and other forms of research recognition, where appropriate will be an added advantage.
The curriculum vitae (CV) should contain a detailed list of publications: clearly specifying titles of publications, dates published, name(s) of publishers, name(s) of co-authors if any and the page numbers. The publications should be categorized as: books, monographs, chapters in books, refereed and non-refereed journals, consultancies etc. The CV should also have a detailed list of courses taught and the levels (undergraduate or graduate) for which they were taught.
