PROFESSOR IN ARCHIVES AND RECORDS MANAGEMENT ( 2 YEAR CONTRACT)

The Department of Library and Information Studies in the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Botswana aims to recruit a Professor in Archives and Records Management.

Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to: (i) teach at all levels in the area of archives & records management with particular reference to any three or more of the following courses: archives & records management, electronic records management, principles of archival arrangement, archival reference services, managing media archives, applications of computers in archives and records management, content management, research methods, preservation and conservation; (ii) provide academic leadership and mentorship to staff within the Department of Library and Information Studies in line with the vision of the University of Botswana as outlined in relevant policy documents; (iii) provide leadership and co-ordination in the fields of teaching, research and service for the Department; (iv) carry out any other duties that may be assigned by the Head of Department. In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will be expected to: engage in research and publication; building external academic networks for collaborative research and consultancies and supervise masters & PhD degree dissertation work.

Requirements: Candidates should possess: (i) a Doctorate in  Archives and Records Management, or relevant field; (ii) should have at least nine (9) years relevant teaching experience at a university or comparable institution; (iii) have a minimum of twenty-four (24) pieces of research products (e.g. articles, book chapters, peer reviewed conference proceedings, etc.) published by recognized publishers. Twelve (12) of these must be articles in refereed/accredited journals in internationally recognized indexing databases. The remaining twelve (12) publications could be journal articles, book chapters, peer reviewed conference proceedings, etc. published by recognized publishers; (iv) An academic book may be equivalent to a maximum of 4 articles in refereed/accredited journals, depending on the quality of standing (v) sustained research output: a minimum of 3 peer reviewed publications every four years; (vi) Sustained research activity: on-going externally supported research (e.g. funded/commissioned); (vii) paper/poster presentations at international conferences at least once every two years; (viii) be lead and/or single author in at least one-quarter of the required journal publications. There should also be evidence of mentorship of early career scholars/graduate students; (ix) publications should be spread internationally and across journals; (x) significant research impact, including but not limited to citations, the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, publications that are prescribed texts in other institutions etc. (required in at least 3 of the these); (xi) acknowledged by peers as being of national and international research standing (e.g. peer review of new research proposals; reference in research committees; editor/guest editor/reviewer of refereed/accredited national and international publishers; editorial board member of an international publisher in a relevant field; invitations as keynote speaker at national and international/symposia (required in at least 3 of the these); (xii) evidence of governance and social engagement; (xiii) research collaborations with other institutions or organisations; (xiv) research collaboration with cognate disciplines in the University; (xv) external examiner for Masters and/or PhD theses internationally. The following will be added advantages: (i) research awards and other forms of research recognition, where appropriate will be an added advantage. (iii) examiner/moderator/assessor for undergraduate and/or postgraduate projects nationally; (iv) and, experience in running a programme/course, etc.

The curriculum vitae should contain a detailed list of published works, clearly specifying titles of publications, ISBN numbers (for books, book chapters and conference proceedings), dates of publications, names of publishers, name/s of co-authors if any and number of pages. The works should be categorized into books, book chapters, refereed journals, non-refereed works, consultancies and practical media projects.
