PROFESSOR IN AQUATIC BIOLOGY

PROFESSOR IN AQUATIC BIOLOGY - VACANCY NO: IRC 1014

Duties: The successful candidate will be required to (i) conduct lectures and laboratory practicals in ecology at both undergraduate and graduate levels; (ii) undertake individual research or in collaboration with colleagues within or outside the department; (iii) develop and implement mentorship activities for junior staff (iv) provide service to the University, profession and to the community and; (v) perform any other duties that may be assigned by the Head of Department.

Requirements: Candidates must have (i) at least a PhD Degree in aquatic biology or related discipline, with specialisation in aquatic ecology/limnology (ii) at least 9 years university teaching experience at a comparable institution; (iii) a minimum of 24 pieces of research products (e.g. articles, book chapters, peer reviewed conference proceedings, etc.) published by recognized publishers. Twelve (12) of these must be articles in refereed/accredited journals in internationally recognized indexing databases. The remaining twelve (12) publications could be journal articles, book chapters, peer reviewed conference proceedings, etc. published by recognized publishers; (iv) An academic book may be equivalent to a maximum of 4 articles in refereed/accredited journals, depending on the quality of standing; (v) sustained research output: a minimum of 3 peer reviewed publications every four years; (vi) sustained research activity: on-going externally supported research (e.g. funded/commissioned); (vii) paper/poster presented at international conferences at least once every two years; (viii) be lead and/or single author in at least one-quarter of the required journal publications. There should also be evidence of mentorship of early career scholars/graduate students; (ix) publications should be spread internationally and across journals; (x) significant research impact, including but not limited to citations, the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, publications that are prescribed texts in other institutions etc. (required in at least 3 of those); (xi) acknowledged by peers as being of national and international research standing (e.g. peer review of new research proposals; reference in research committees; editor/guest editor/reviewer of refereed/accredited national and international publishers; editorial board member of an international publisher in a relevant field; invitations as keynote speaker at national and international/symposia (required in at least 3 of these); (xii) evidence of governance and social engagement; (xiii) research collaborations with other institutions or organizations; (xiv) research collaboration with cognate disciplines in the university; (xv) external examiner for Masters and/or PhD thesis internationally. The following will be added advantage: (i) research awards and other forms of research recognition, where appropriate.
