The University of Botswana (UB), a premier state-owned tertiary institution dedicated to shaping the future through excellence, research, innovation and meaningful societal impact, invites applications from accomplished and suitably qualified professionals for the position of Professor/ Associate Professor in Logistics and Supply Chain Management in the Department of Logistics and Supply Chain Management under the School of Management Sciences and Law.

PROFESSOR

The Professor in Logistics and Supply Chain Management is responsible for making original contributions to the Logistics and Supply Chain Management discipline, research and scholarship. The incumbent plays a critical role and provides leadership in scholarship and research internationally and makes significant contribution in the governance of the University.

Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to: i. Teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in at least two of the following: Research Methods, Logistics Systems Management, Procurement and Contract Management, Strategic Supply Chain Management, Public Procurement Legal Framework, International Logistics, Transportation Management and Warehousing Cube and Utilization. The Department reserves the right to allocate other courses in addition to those outlined above; ii. Supervise post graduate and undergraduate student’s projects as need may arise; iii. Participate in the academic, governance and social engagement in Supply Chain Management and related disciplines, including Logistics and Procurement; iv. Contribute to the development of and implement university, faculty and school level strategies, policies, plans, and procedures; vi. Guide and support students in the adoption of a broad range of learning practices appropriate to the discipline; vii. Support and guide students into understanding how knowledge is constructed in the discipline of innovation and thoughtful ways at undergraduate and post-graduate levels; viii. Provide Exemplary evidence of inquiry-based teaching and learning across a range of levels; ix. Demonstrate coherence between philosophy and practice; x. Review programmes/ courses to ensure they are relevant to and up to date with local, international, global and disciplinary contexts, as well as engagement with students, stakeholders and peers; xi. Ensure alignment between programmes/ courses and respective outcomes, teaching and learning activities, and assessment methods and criteria; xii. Analyze assessment processes and student assessment results to inform curriculum practice; xiii. Lead original research projects, addressing key questions in the discipline; xiv. Secure external funding to support research and elevate the university's reputation; xv. Drive grant proposal development to sustain research momentum; xvi. Conduct and publish high level, transdisciplinary research in field of expertise; xvii. Shape future research agendas within the discipline and broader society; xviii. Collaborate with colleagues in other universities and research institutions in impactful research; xix. Contribute to the development of intellectual property that benefits the university; xx. Demonstrate excellent leadership in policy formulation and Research Institute management within the university; xxi. Provide effective leadership in change management across the entire university; xxii. Contribute to curriculum development and governmental advisory groups; xxiii. Develop entrepreneurial and economic initiatives benefiting the community; xxiv. Enhance the university's reputation through leadership and participation in national and international initiative; xxv. Make high level impact in institutional and national policy review; xxvi. Participate in the identification and mitigation of operational risks; xxvii. Comply with relevant regulations and legislation and perform any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Head of School/Departmental Chairperson

Requirements: Applicants should have/be (i) a relevant bachelor’s degree, plus a relevant master’s degree and Doctorate (PhD) in Supply Chain Management or a cognate discipline within Logistics and Procurement (ii) at least NINE years of relevant teaching experience at a university or comparable institution; (iii) a minimum of 24 pieces of research products (e.g. articles, book chapters, peer-reviewed conference proceedings, etc.) published by recognised publishers. Twelve (12) of these must be articles published in refereed/accredited journals indexed in internationally recognised databases. The remaining 12 publications could be journal articles, book chapters,  peer-reviewed conference proceedings,  etc. published by recognised publishers; (iv) An academic book may be equivalent to a maximum of 4 articles in refereed/accredited journals, depending on the quality of standing; (v) sustained research output: a minimum of 3 peer reviewed publications every four years; (vi) Sustained research activity:   on-going externally supported research   (e.g. funded/commissioned); (vii) paper/poster presentations at international conferences at least once every two years; (viii) be lead and/or single author in at least one-quarter of the required journal publications in structural/metamorphic Geology. There should also be evidence of mentorship of early career scholars/graduate students; (ix) publications should be spread internationally and across journals; (x) significant research impact, including but not limited to citations, the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, publications that are prescribed texts in other institutions etc. (required in at least 3 of the these); (xi) acknowledged by peers as being of national and international research standing (e.g. peer review of new research proposals; reference in research committees; editor/guest editor/reviewer of refereed/accredited national and international publishers; editorial board member of an international publisher in a relevant field; invitations as keynote speaker at national and international/symposia (required in at least 3 of the these); (xii) evidence of governance and social engagement; (xiii) research collaborations with other institutions or organisations; (xiv) research collaboration with cognate disciplines in the University; (xv) external examiner for Masters and/or PhD theses internationally.

Added advantage: teaching experience at university or evidence of governance & social engagement.

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR

The Associate Professor in Logistics and Supply Chain Management is responsible for making original contributions to the Logistics and Supply Chain Management discipline, research and scholarship. The incumbent plays a critical role and provides leadership in scholarship and research regionally and makes significant contribution in the governance of the University.

Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to: i. Teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in at least two of the following: Research Methods, Logistics Systems Management, Procurement and Contract Management, Strategic Supply Chain Management, Public Procurement Legal Framework, International Logistics, Transportation Management and Warehousing Cube and Utilization. The Department reserves the right to allocate other courses in addition to those outlined above; ii. Supervise post graduate and undergraduate student’s projects as need may arise; iii. Participate in the academic, governance and social engagement in Supply Chain Management and related disciplines, including Logistics and Procurement; iv. Contribute to the development of and implement university, faculty and school level strategies, policies, plans, and procedures; v. Guide and support students as they acquire learning practices appropriate to the discipline; vi. Guide and support a range of students to produce rigorous research or sound professional practice; vii. Review programmes/ courses to ensure they are relevant to and up to date with local, international, global and disciplinary contexts, as well as engagement with students, stakeholders and peers; viii. Ensure alignment between programmes/ courses and respective outcomes, teaching and learning activities, and assessment methods and criteria; ix. Publish findings in reputable journals and present at conferences for wider dissemination; x. Secure external funding to support research and elevate the university's reputation; xi. Cultivate interdisciplinary collaborations, fostering innovation and problem-solving; xii. Drive grant proposal development to sustain research momentum; xiii. Proactively engage in consultancy services in line area of expertise; xiv. Manage a Faculty/ unit or department in the university as assigned/ appointed; xv. Contribute to programme development and quality assurance internally and externally, including short executive development courses; xvi. Engage in activities to enhance the university's profile and foster community development (e.g., leadership in professional committees, service in regional/ international bodies/ expert panels, or leadership in public and/or private organisations); xvii. Make high level impact in institutional and national policy review; xviii. Keep abreast of developments within own field of study and its implications for teaching and learning, community engagement, research, etc.; xix. Participate in the identification and mitigation of operational risks; xx. Comply with relevant regulations and legislation; xxi. Participate in academic, governance and social engagement in Entrepreneurship or related field  and perform any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Head of School/Departmental Chairperson required by the University in line with the role.

The remaining 4 publications could be journal articles, book chapters, peer reviewed conference proceedings, etc. published by recognized publishers. The curriculum vitae should contain a detailed list of published works, clearly specifying titles of publications, ISBN numbers (for books, book chapters and conference proceedings), dates of publications, names of publishers, name/s of co-authors if any and number of pages. The works should be categorized into books, book chapters, refereed journals, non-refereed works, consultancies and practical media projects.
