GLOBAL POSTDOC IN IMPLEMENTATION SCIENCE AND PRIMARY CARE

Duration:                 1 year for the initial appointment (with possibility for renewal for a total of 2 years of postdoctoral fellowship)

JOB SUMMARY

The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will be joining ongoing and planned studies using implementation research to improve primary care in Botswana. 

As a member of the research team the fellow will use their research skills to address a range of implementation research questions relevant for improving primary care in Botswana focusing on non-communicable diseases, aging, and other relevant challenges in improving the health of the population in Botswana Activities will include qualitative and quantitative data collection, analysis, and dissemination (e.g., writing papers and developing academic and community presentations)  for research on access and delivery of primary care-based care and other interventions to improve population health and inform policy and planning.

The Postdoctoral Research Fellow should bring strong qualitative analytical skills (and ability to work with a team of biostatisticians and other experts in behavioral science, clinical medicine and primary care) with experience in health-related research and ideally implementation and primary care research. Other preferred skills include knowledge of health systems strengthening and research, mixed methods, and experience in the field of primary care and chronic diseases research.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support development of existing and new study protocols and study tools;
  • Lead development of publications and support other co-authors in dissemination work;
  • Work as part of the research team to meet the objectives and deliver the research outputs of the research, including data collection, data extraction, analysis and reporting writing;
  • Supervising and providing capacity building for junior researchers and research assistants;
  • Support grant writing including proposing new projects

 Qualifications:

▪ Doctorate (PhD and/or MD) in implementation science, global health, public health, health systems, health economics, psychology, social work, counselling or other discipline with focus on mixed methods research

▪ Strong skills and experience in quantitative analysis, qualitative data analysis, and/or dissemination & implementation research

▪ Preferred: Prior experience conducting global implementation research

▪ Previous scientific publications in relevant research demonstrating strong writing skills

▪ Strong work ethic and commitment to implementation research in primary care

▪ Interest in mentoring and capacity building

▪ Excellent oral and written communication skills and fluency in spoken and written English.

Appointment:

This is a one-year full-time research post-doctoral fellowship opportunity at University of Botswana. There is a potential for a second year, contingent upon performance and funding. Applications are now being accepted and will be reviewed until the position is filled.
