PHARMACIST (CONTRACT POSITION)

The University of Botswana invites suitable candidates to apply for the position of a Pharmacist in the School of Pharmacy, Faculty of Health Sciences.

Duties: The successful candidate is expected to; (i) Manage the laboratories on a day to day basis, e.g. delegation of duties, supervision and training of subordinate staff. (ii)Plans and executes the day to day duties required for laboratory and clinical sessions. (iii)Organises work space (or bench space) and ensure a high productivity in the laboratories. (iv) Acts as a Safety Officer for the laboratories and Department. (v) Provides demonstration where appropriate and competent, the use of laboratory and/or clinical procedures, techniques and/or application of equipment and apparatuses for learners. (vi) inspects and maintains equipment, machinery tools and materials where appropriate. (vii) Ensure the servicing, validation, calibration, repairs and maintenance of all equipment and machinery tools where appropriate. (viii) Advises and support procurement, stock management, as well as, practical and project exercises. (ix)Supports and/or supervises field practice experientials as may be required. (x) Collaborates with strategic partners or bodies on technical matters as regards the teaching and learning process. (xi) Supervises the designated subordinates. (xii) Deputise the Senior Pharmacist when required. Any other duty as assigned by the Supervisor or Head of Department

Requirements: To qualify for appointment, candidates must have at least (i)Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm.) or equivalent from a recognised institution (ii) relevant postgraduate or second degree will be added advantage (iii) Three (3) years of previous work experience as a Pharmacist. (iv) Registered with the Botswana Health and Professional Council (BHPC).

Qualities: (i)Competence in laboratory and clinical practice. (ii) Good supervisory skills. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.  (iii) Ability to work effectively with students and academic staff. (iv)Ability to work independently. (v)  Computer literacy.
