PART-TIME/TEMPORARY COUNSELLOR

DEPARTMENT OF CAREERS AND COUNSELLING

Duties:  The successful candidate will be expected to (i) evaluate the nature of problems of students to identify the real problems and work out a meaningful plan of action for intervention (ii) identify and utilize the resources available to assist students (iii) provide crisis intervention and emergency services to clients with emotional distress and refer students to other community resources (iv) provide opportunities for students to understand themselves and their living conditions (v) identify students at risk and provide appropriate remedy (vi) provide consultation services within the university and relevant community agencies (vii) participate in service evaluation and research of the Unit (viii) participate in training Interns, Practicum students attached to the Centre (ix) provide counselling services to students and staff (x) participate in community service (xi) and attend to other professional duties as assigned by the Centre.

Requirements:  (i) A Master Degree in Guidance and Counselling/Counsellor Education /Counselling and Human Sciences or Counselling Psychology/Social Work/Clinical Psychology.

(ii) Excellent interpersonal, organizational presentation and research skills, individual and group counselling skills, working knowledge of personal computers. (iii) With at least three years related work experience, preferably in a higher education environment/similar setting (Doctoral Degree an added advantage).
