NURSING SISTER (FAMILY NURSE PRACTITIONER)

The main purpose of the job: To provide direct nursing care services of a sufficient quality to complement, match and enhance specialized medical services and carry out advanced clinical procedures essential in the delivery of comprehensive health care services.  To attend to student health utilizing holistic approach that is attending to their psychological, physical, social and spiritual needs and not merely attending to physical illness only.

Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to: (i) consult and provide general outpatient care to clients; (ii) provide essential advice and guidance to other nurses, involved in clinical work to ensure quality in nursing care; (iii) participate in the development and implementation of nursing care programmes at UB; (iv) participate in the development of departmental policies and procedures aligned to the national and University of Botswana  health policies; (v) assist Nursing  Manager in supervision and implementation of nursing programmes; (vi) develop educational materials for the UB Community on health and wellness; (vii) provide counselling to patients; (viii) supervise subordinates and monitors their progress through the performance management system; (ix) prepare reports on services provided (x) and attend to any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements: Candidates should have a minimum of: (i) Diploma in General Nursing; (ii) Diploma in Family Nurse Practice; (iii) At least five to seven years’ experience working in a district facility or hospital providing nursing care. The following will be an added advantage:  (iv) Nursing Degree, e.g. Bachelor of Nursing Science or equivalent; (v) Relevant Master’s degree in Nursing Science will be an added advantage; (vi) work in a tertiary institution will be an added advantage.

Qualities: Strong organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.  Ability to work effectively with students, staff and family members.  Ability to work independently to manage multiple priorities, computer literacy, counselling abilities. High degree of commitment to work adhering to nursing standards and ethics.
