VACANCY NO: FHS/SAHP/ 01/2023 - MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENTIEST (CYTOTECHNOLOGY AND HISTOTECHNOLOGY (1 Position)

Main purpose of the job

To prepare equipment and reagents for laboratory classes, ensure tht the laboratory equipment is in working order, manage laboratory practicals, demonstrate techniques, and maintain inventory of stocks and equipment.

Duties:

  • Prapare the laboratory for postgraduate and undergraduate practical sessions
  • Demonstrates clinical laboratory science skills to students
  • Maintains acceptable safety standards in the laboratories and associated working areas.
  • Mainitains laboratory equipment inventory, assist in the purchase of laboratory equipment and consumables.
  • Provides technical assistance in teaching and research and any other duties assisgned by the Head of Department/Lecturer.
  • Required to handle human biological specimens.
  • Performs quality assurance procedures for maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies.
  • Demonstrate the correct use of equipment to students during laboratory sessions.
  • May be assigned to supervise technical staff below the Technician level.
  • The position reports to the Senior Technician.

  • Quality of preparation and setup of laboratories for students.
  • Good technical skills in histotechnology and cytotechnology.
  • Maintain safe laboratory environment.  

Requirements:

  • Degree in Cytotechnology and Histotechnology Sciences or Equivalent (with majors in histology/Cytology).
  • At least 1 year working experience in cytotechnology and Histotechnology hospital or teaching Laboratory.  
  • Registered with Botswana Health Professions Council as a Medical Laboratory Scientis.
  • Good technical and communication skills.
