The University of Botswana (UB), a premier state-owned tertiary institution dedicated to shaping the future through excellence, innovation, and meaningful societal impact, invites applications from accomplished and suitably qualified professionals for the position of Manager: Educational Technology & Innovation in the Centre for Learning and Teaching Innovation (CELTI).

The Manager: Educational Technology & Innovation will lead and drive innovation in educational technology within the University of Botswana, ensuring the effective integration of technology into teaching and learning practices to enhance student outcomes and institutional effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy and Policy: (i) Contribute to University and departmental strategies, policies, and plans; lead unit-level implementation. (ii)   Develop and execute Educational Technology & Innovation plans aligned with departmental strategy. (iii) Manage the Educational Technology & Innovation's operational performance against established goals and objectives identifying areas for improvement and recommending corrective action as needed. (iv) Track emerging trends to drive innovation and enhance services.

Course and Program Development: (i) Work closely with stakeholders and academic departments to integrate technology into course and program development. (ii) Provide expert support for technologyenhanced learning aligned with best practices. (iii) Evaluate and recommend educational technology tools and platforms. (iv) Support faculty development in effective use of educational technologies.

Technology Integration: (i) Support faculty in integrating educational technologies with institutional systems. (ii) Liaise with stakeholders to evaluate technical requirements and implement new technology solutions. (iii) Deliver training to faculty and support staff on technology-enhanced teaching and learning tools. (iv) Monitor technology integration projects, resolving issues and ensuring successful implementation. (v) Assess the effectiveness of technology initiatives and recommend improvements.

Collaboration: (i) Foster collaboration and communication among faculty, instructional designers, ICT, administrators and other stakeholders. (ii) Participate in cross-functional teams to explore innovative technology-enhanced teaching and learning approaches. (iii) Coordinate collaborative projects with institutional departments to achieve shared objectives. (iv) Act as a liaison between the educational technology team and key stakeholders, promoting knowledge sharing and collaboration. (v) Help build partnerships with external organizations, vendors, and industry partners.

Record Keeping and Reporting: (i) Maintain records of educational technology initiatives, projects and outcomes. (ii) Develop and maintain documentation, policies, procedures and guidelines for educational technology use. (iii) Report on progress and impact of educational technology programs for senior management. (iv) Ensure compliance with data privacy, protection and security requirements in managing educational technology data. (v) Assist with the evaluation of educational technology initiatives by analysing data and identifying improvement opportunities.

Customer and Stakeholder Experience: Provide excellent customer service by resolving enquiries efficiently, enhancing customer and stakeholder experiences and maintaining effective partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to support the centre's mandate and ensure satisfaction.

People Management: (i) Participate in recruitment, retention and the development of a diverse team through mentoring, training and career growth opportunities. (ii) Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback and manage engagement and discipline in line with HR policies and labour laws.

Financial Management: Assist in developing and managing the centre’s and Educational Technology & Innovation section’s budgets and recommend expenditure within delegated limits.

Risk Management and Compliance: (i) Develop and maintain the Educational Technology & Innovation risk register, implementing effective mitigation measures. (ii) Support internal and external unit level audits as per the University policy, address audit findings and make recommendations to improve processes and controls. (iv) Ensure unit compliance to legislative and statutory requirements.

Requirements for the job:

Qualification Requirements: (i) A Master’s Degree in Educational Technology, Instructional Technology, Computer Science/Information Technology with Education, or a related field is required. (ii) PhD/Doctorate in the relevant area is an added advantage (iii) Member of recognised professional body (if necessary)

Experience Requirements: (i)A minimum of six (6) years' experience, three (3) of which should have been at senior officer level. (ii) Higher Education experience is preferred.

Other Requirements: (i) Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities. (ii) Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. (iii) Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty and administrators. (iv) Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
