LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER IN MINERAL ENGINEERING

FACULTY OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY 

DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL ENGINEERING   

VACANCY NO:  IRC 2725 (One Position) 

Applications are invited for the position of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Mineral Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering. 

Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to (i) teach undergraduate courses in Mineral Engineering in more than one of the following areas: Physical Mineral Processes, Flotation, Extractive Metallurgy, Processing of Precious Metals, Diamond Processing Technology, Plant Process and Flowsheet Design, Process Control and Instrumentation, Tailings and Wastewater Disposal, Environment Management and Coal Preparation (ii) conduct and produce results of scholarly work, actively involving students at B. Eng. Degree level (iii) carry out any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Head of Department.  

Requirements:  

Lecturer: Applicants must have: (i) a PhD in Mineral Engineering, Mineral Processing, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering or equivalent (ii) a Masters’ Degrees in Mineral/Metallurgy/Chemical Engineering with a bachelor’s degree in Mineral/Metallurgy/Chemical (iii) be registered or eligible for registration with the Engineering Registration Board (ERB) (iv) evidence engagement in research (v) significant research output and mineral industry experience, evidence of governance and social engagement as well as teaching experience at a university or comparable institution will be added advantages. 

N.B: In special circumstances a Masters’ Degrees in Mineral/Metallurgy/Chemical Engineering with a bachelor’s degree in Mineral/Metallurgy/Chemical of at least 2(i) or equivalent may be considered. Significant research output and mineral industry experience will be added advantage.

Senior Lecturer: Candidates should have: (i) a Ph.D in Mineral Engineering, Mineral Processing, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline, (ii) a Masters’ Degrees in Mineral/Metallurgy/Chemical Engineering with a Bachelor’s degree in Mineral/Metallurgy/Chemical (iii) must be registered or eligible to be registered with a relevant engineering professional body; (iv) at least 3 years relevant teaching experience at a university or comparable institution; (v) an excellent cumulative and sustained record of research and publications with at least 6 pieces of research products published by recognised publishers, 4 of which must be articles in refereed/accredited journals in internationally recognised indexing databases. The remaining 2 publications could be journal articles, book chapters, peer reviewed conference proceedings etc published by recognized publishers. An academic book may be equivalent to a maximum of 4 articles in refereed/accredited journals, depending on the quality and standing of the publisher; (ix) sustained research output: a minimum of 1 peer reviewed publication every 2 years; (x) scholarly presentations at national and/or international conferences; (xi) lead and/or single author in at least 2 refereed journal articles; (xiii) publications should be spread nationally and/or internationally and across journals; (xiv) some research impact, including but not limited to citations, the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, publications that are prescribed texts in other institutions etc. (required in at least 1 of the these); (xv) recognised as being of at least national research standing (e.g. reviewer for refereed/accredited national and regional publishers; Editorial board member of at least a national publisher in a relevant field; invitation as key note speaker at national and/or international conferences (required in at least 1 of the these) and (xvi) evidence of governance and social engagement; (xv) Registered/or be eligible to register with ERB as a Professional Engineer. Research awards and other forms of research recognition, where appropriate will be an added advantage. 

The curriculum vitae should contain a detailed list of published works, clearly specifying titles of publications, ISBN numbers (for books, book chapters and conference proceedings), dates of publications, names of publishers, name/s of co-authors if any and number of pages. The works should be categorized into books, book chapters, refereed journals, non-refereed works, consultancies and practical media projects.
