LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER IN ACCOUNTING

LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER IN ACCOUNTING, (2 contract positions)

Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to (i) teach undergraduate, postgraduate and executive courses; (ii) supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects; (iii) have the ability to teach at least Three (3) of the following courses: Financial Accounting, Cost and Management Accounting, Current Issues in Accounting, Accounting Theory, Ethics in Accounting, Auditing, Public Sector Accounting, Taxation, and Financial Intelligence Regulation and Framework: (iv) undertake scholarly research; (v) have an impactful engagement with the industry; and (vi) perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Head of Department.

Requirements:

Lecturer Candidates should: (i) have a Doctoral Degree in Accounting or related field; (ii) Master Degree in Accounting or related field; (iii) Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field with at least a 2(i) pass or equivalent: (iii) show evidence of engagement in research. (iv) Experience in teaching in a university or comparable institution, governance and social engagement and a relevant professional qualification (e.g. BICA, CIMA, ACCA) will be an added advantages.

N.B. In exceptional circumstances, a holder of a Master’s Degree in Accounting or related field may be considered provided that the candidate has a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field with at least a 2(i) pass or equivalent.

Senior Lecturer:  Candidates should have (i) Doctoral Degree in Accounting or related field (ii) Master and Bachelors Degree in Accounting or related field; (iii) at least 3 years of teaching experience at a University or comparable institution, (v) have a good and sustained record of research and publications outputs with at least 6 pieces of research products published with recognized publishers , 4 of which should be articles in refereed or accredited journals in internationally recognised indexing. The remaining two publications could be journal articles, book chapters, peer reviewed conference proceedings, etc, published by recognised publishers. An academic book may be equivalent to a maximum of 4 articles in refereed/accredited journals, depending on the quality and standing of the publisher; (vi) sustained research output: a minimum of 1 peer reviewed publication every 2 years; (v) scholarly presentations at national and /or international conferences; (vi) be lead and/or single author in at least 2 refereed journal articles; (vii)  publication should be spread nationally and/or internationally and across journals; (viii) some research impact, including but not limited to citations, the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, publications that are prescribed texts in other institutions etc. ( required in at least 1 of these); (ix) recognized as being of at least national research standing (e.g. reviewer for refereed/accredited national and regional publishers; (x) editorial board member of at least a national publisher in a relevant field; (xi) invitation as key note speaker at national and/or international conferences (required in at least 1 of these); (xii)     evidence of governance and social engagement. The following will be added advantages (i); a relevant professional qualification (e.g. BICA, CIMA, ACCA); (ii) sustained research activity; (iii) ongoing supported research; (iv) research awards and other forms of research recognition, where appropriate and examiner/moderator/assessor for undergraduate and/or postgraduate projects nationally and effective experience in running a programme/course.

 CV: The curriculum vitae (CV) should contain a detailed list of publications; clearly specifying titles of publications, dates published, name of publishers and name of co-authors if any. Publications should be categorized into: books, monographs, refereed and non-refereed journals, chapters in books, etc.
