LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER POSITION IN URBAN PLANNING AND DESIGN 2 – YEAR CONTRACT

The University of Botswana invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the post of Lecturer /Senior Lecturer to teach courses in Urban and Regional Planning Programme, fully accredited by the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).

Lecturer

Duties:

The successful candidate will (i) teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Urban and Regional Planning. (ii) Teach design and/or studio courses (iii) undertake research in his/her field of expertise; (iv) participate in governance and social engagement; and (v) undertake any other duties assigned to him/her by the supervisor or Head of Department.

Requirements:

Candidates must possess (i) a Bachelor’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning or cognate field with at least a 2(i) pass/GPA of at least 3.6 on a 5-point scale or equivalent; (ii) a Master’s Degree in Urban Design/Urban Planning or equivalent (iii) A PhD in Urban Design/Urban Planning or Equivalent. (iv) Must show evidence of engagement in research.

University teaching experience and evidence of governance and social engagement will be added advantage.

N.B. In special circumstances an applicant with Master’s Degree in Urban Design or equivalent area with demonstrable quality design experience (Portfolio) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning or equivalent with at least a 2(i) classification may be considered for appointment.

 

Senior Lecturer

Duties

The successful candidates will (i) teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Urban and Regional Planning; (ii) Teach design and/or studio courses (iii) undertake research in his/her field of expertise; (iv) participate in governance and social engagement; (v) Provide academic leadership; and (vi) undertake any other duties assigned to him/her by the supervisor or Head of Department

Candidates must possess (i) a Bachelor’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning or cognate field with at least a 2(i) pass/GPA of at least 3.6 on a 5-point scale or equivalent; (ii) a Master’s Degree in Urban Design/Urban Planning or equivalent (iii) A PhD in Urban Design/Urban Planning or Equivalent; (iv) Published at least six (6) pieces of research output; of which four (4) should be peer-reviewed articles in accredited journals in internationally recognized indexing databases and be a lead author in at least two (2) articles. (v) Must have sustained research output evidence of one (1) peer reviewed publication every two years (v) Evidence of engagement in research activity, ongoing research projects, scholarly presentations in conferences (vi) some research impact (vii)eligible to register with internationally recognized professional body or institute. (viii) Evidence of governance and social engagement in context of the Urban Planning/Urban Design profession (ie serving in leadership and service committees); and (viii) 3 years teaching experience at a University or comparable institution is required.

Selected candidates will be invited for an interview, and to submit portfolios of their work.
