LECTURER IN SPECIAL EDUCATION (HEARING IMPAIRMENT) Contract Position

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the post of Lecturer in Special Education (Hearing Impairment), with a strong background in Deaf education and Sign Language teaching in the Department of Educational Foundations, Faculty of Education.

Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to: i) teach and assess courses in Special Education with a focus on Hearing Impairment and Sign Language. ii) provide academic leadership through the enhancement of teaching, research, professional or community service; iii) take an active part in the supervision and assessment of undergraduate and graduate students’ research projects; iv) participate in all academic and professional activities of the department including research and curriculum review; v) carry out any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Head of Department.

Requirements: Candidates should have: (i) a Doctorate in any of the following areas: PhD in Deaf Education, PhD in Special Education (Hearing Impairment) PhD Inclusive Education (Hearing Impairment), (ii) a Master’s degree in any of the following areas: Deaf Education (Hearing impairment with sign language),  Special Education (Hearing impairment with sign language) Inclusive Education (Hearing impairment with sign language). The Bachelor’s degree should be in the field that is advertised (HI), (iii); Evidence of engagement in research in the area advertised (v) relevant teaching experience at a university or comparable institution, evidence of social engagement in the line of the area advertised, and evidence of professional affiliation will be an added advantage.

N.B. Applicants with a Master's degree in the advertised areas with a Bachelor’s degree in Special /Inclusive Education, with a focus in Hearing Impairment and Sign Language with at least 2(i) pass or equivalent may be considered under special circumstances.
