The University of Botswana (UB), a premier state-owned tertiary institution dedicated to shaping the future through excellence, innovation and meaningful societal impact, invites applications from accomplished and suitably qualified professionals for the position of Lecturer in Science Education (Biology) in the Department of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

The Lecturer in Science Education (Biology Education) is responsible for undertaking independent teaching and research in Biology Education or related areas and makes independent contribution to professional practice and/or expertise. The incumbent will also coordinate or lead the related activities as appropriate to the discipline and undertake administrative activities of the University.

Duties: The successful candidates will be expected to: (i) Teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in Biology Education and other Science Education related courses; (ii) Supervise students on internship/teaching practice; (iii) Supervise students' research projects, theses and dissertations at both undergraduate and graduate levels (iv) Develop and update undergraduate and some graduate courses. (v) Utilize innovative teaching methods and technology to enhance student engagement and learning experiences. (vi) Provide academic advising, mentorship, and career guidance to students. (vii) Produce research findings based on independent findings. (viii) Develop a portfolio of creative and professional work and participate in competitions to showcase contributions. (xi) Contribute to the development of research proposals and the implementation of projects. (x) Participate in external research in efforts to boost the standing of the university/ institute as required. (xi) Present scholarly articles at national and international seminars and conferences; (xii) Assist with organizing faculty/ university symposium and conferences of national importance; (xiii) Engage in continuous professional development to stay current in both academic and professional realms locally; (xiv) Participate in the identification and mitigation of operational risks; (xv) Collaborate with relevant internal and external stakeholders as needed to effectively deliver duties as defined; (xvi) Comply with relevant regulations and legislations; (xvii) Write and submit written manuscripts for possible publishing; (xviii) Undertake any other duties from time to time as assigned by the Head of School/Chairperson of Department.

Requirements: Applicant should have: (i) A relevant PhD/doctoral degree in Biology Education or related discipline; (ii) a Master's degree in Biology Education or equivalent. (iii) a Bachelor's degree in Biology Education or equivalent with at least second class, first division (2.1) pass/GPA of at least 3.6 or equivalent; (iv) Evidence of engagement in research. (v) Membership or eligible to register with Botswana Qualifications Authority and a relevant and recognized professional body is required;

Other Requirements: i. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders; ii. Understanding of teaching and principles and practices; iii. Understanding research methodologies, tools and principles.

Added Advantages: (i) Experience in teaching Biology Education at college/university level or its equivalence, social engagements and governance.
