The University of Botswana (UB), a premier state-owned tertiary institution dedicated to shaping the future through excellence, research, innovation and meaningful societal impact, invites applications from accomplished and suitably qualified professionals for the position of Lecturer in the Department of Psychiatry.
The position holder is responsible for undertaking independent teaching and research in the Psychiatry discipline or related areas and make independent contributions to professional practice and/or expertise. The incumbent will also coordinate or lead the related activities as appropriate to the discipline and undertake administrative activities of the Institution.
Duties: the successful candidate will: (i) contribute to the development of and implement departmental, sectional, and unit-level strategies, policies, plans, and procedures; (ii)teach both undergraduate and graduate courses; (iii) Conduct research and participate in research teams and collaborative projects; (iv) Supervise student research projects, and dissertation; (v) Design and administer assessments that measure student learning outcomes;(vi) Grade assignments and exams, providing detailed and constructive feedback;(vii) provide service for the university, profession and community; (viii) Provide clinical care in affiliated hospitals. (ix) Provide academic advising, mentorship, and career guidance to students (x) Assist with organizing faculty/ university symposium and conferences of national importance and (xi) Present scholarly articles at national and international seminars and conferences. (x) Assist with organizing faculty/ university symposium and conferences of national importance. (xi) Carry out any other duties as assigned by the Head of School or Departmental Chairperson.
Requirements: the applicant should have: (i) A Master of Medicine (MMed) or equivalent with a specialist qualification in Psychiatry; (ii) a first degree in (MBBS, MBChB, MD degree) or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution; (iii) the qualification must be registered with or registrable by the Botswana Health Professions Council. (iv) evidence of engagement in research, including published journal articles, participation in research teams and collaborative programmes.
Added advantages: (i) experience of teaching at a university or comparable institution; (ii) evidence of governance and social engagement. (iii) A PhD in the relevant area
Successful candidates will be based at Sbrana Psychiatric Hospital.
