The Faculty of Engineering and Technology invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the position of Lecturer in the Department of Industrial Design and Technology.
Duties: The successful candidate will be required to; (i) teach ceramics design, interior design and visual communication design courses in the degree programmes of Design and Technology and Industrial Design; (ii) conduct research in design practice and design education; (iii) supervise students projects, teaching practice and industrial training and (iv) any other duties assigned by the Head of Department.
Lecturer: Candidate should (i) have a Bachelor’s degree in, Product Design and Technology, Industrial Design, Graphic Design, Digital Design, Art and Design or equivalent, (ii) a relevant Master’s degree in Art and Design, 2D Digital Design, Communication Design or equivalent, (iii) PhD in Design; (iv) demonstrate and show evidence of Research and Professional and Community Engagement; (v) and a design portfolio of design and products in Ceramics. The following will be added advantages: (i) evidence of Governance and Social Engagement; (ii) teaching experience at a University or comparable institution; (iii) industrial experience.
N.B In special circumstances an applicant with the following qualifications and experience may be considered for appointment; (i) have a Bachelors degree in Art and Design, Product Design and Technology, Industrial Design, Graphic Design, Digital Design, Fine Art, Art Education or equivalent with at least a First Class; (i) classification or a GPA of 4.4 and above on a 5-point scale; (ii) a relevant Master’s degree in Art and Design, 2D and Digital Design, Product Modelling or equivalent; (iii) demonstrate experience in ceramics, 2D and Digital Design and Communication Design packed in a Design Portfolio;(iv) at least 10 years teaching experience as a lecturer or high rank at University level; (v) minimum of six (6) pieces of published research products; lead or single author in at least 2; (vi) demonstrate evidence of engagement in research and/or teaching experience in Design or related discipline; (vii) and evidence of service to the University, the profession and the community. Awards of excellence in the discipline will be an added advantage.
