LECTURER IN COMPUTER ENGINEERING

The University of Botswana (UB), a premier state-owned tertiary institution dedicated to shaping the future through excellence, research, innovation and meaningful societal impact, invites applications from accomplished and suitably qualified professionals for the position of Lecturer in Computer Engineering.

The position holder is responsible for undertaking independent teaching and research in the Computer Engineering discipline and/or related areas and make independent contributions to professional practices and expertise. The incumbent will coordinate or lead the related activities as appropriate to the discipline and undertake administrative activities of the institution.

Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to: (i) Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Computer and Telecommunications Engineering, including courses such as Computer Programming, Wireless Sensor Systems, Signals and Systems, Digital Signal Processing, Digital Systems Design, Microprocessor-Based Systems, Computer Architecture and Systems, and other related areas; (ii) Actively participate in the supervision and assessment of undergraduate and postgraduate students’ research projects; (iii) Serve on committees within the University and in external professional organizations; and (iv) Carry out any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Chairperson of the Department.

Requirements: Candidates should possess: (i) At least a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Computer and Telecommunications Engineering or a related field; (ii) A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer and Telecommunications Engineering or a related field; (iii) A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer and Telecommunications Engineering or a related field from a recognized university; and (iv) Evidence of governance (e.g. service to a university) and social engagement (e.g. service to the profession and community), research products (e.g. articles, book chapters, peer reviewed conference proceedings, etc.) published by recognized publishers, and teaching experience at a University or comparable institution will be added advantages.  

N.B. Applicants with a Master’s degree in Computer Engineering or Computer and Telecommunications, significant research output, and relevant industry experience, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering or Computer and Telecommunications with at least a Second Class Upper Division 2(i) or equivalent, may be considered under special circumstances.

Other Requirements: Registration with, or eligibility for registration with, the Engineering Registration Board (ERB) is required. •Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders. •Understanding of teaching and principles and practices. •Understanding of research methodologies, tools and principles.
