The University of Botswana (UB), a premier state-owned tertiary institution dedicated to shaping the future through excellence, research, innovation and meaningful societal impact, invites applications from accomplished and suitably qualified professionals for the position of Lecturer in the Department of Pathology.
The position holder is responsible for undertaking independent teaching and research in the Pathology disciplines or related areas and make independent contributions to professional practice and/or expertise. The incumbent will also coordinate or lead the related activities as appropriate to the discipline and undertake administrative activities of the Institution.
Duties: the successful candidate will: (i) contribute to the development of and implement departmental, sectional, and unit-level strategies, policies, plans, and procedures; (ii)teach both undergraduate and graduate courses; (iii) Conduct research and participate in research teams and collaborative projects; (iv) Supervise student research projects, and dissertation; (v) Design and administer assessments that measure student learning outcomes;(vi) Grade assignments and exams, providing detailed and constructive feedback;(vii) provide service for the university, profession and community; (viii) provide diagnostic support in affiliated hospital laboratories; (ix) Provide academic advising, mentorship, and career guidance to students (x) Assist with organizing faculty/ university symposium and conferences of national importance (xi) carry out duties assigned by the Head of School or Departmental Chairperson.
Requirements: the applicant should have: (i) a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery or (MBBS, MD, MBChB) or equivalent qualification) (ii) a Master of Medicine (MMed) or equivalent from a recognised institution in Anatomical Pathology/Clinical Pathology with specialization in Chemical Pathology or Hematopathology/ Clinical Pathology/Chemical Pathology; (iii) Registered with a Valid Practising Licence (or registrable) with the Botswana Health Professions Council as a Specialist in Anatomical Pathology/Clinical Pathology/Hematopathology/Chemical Pathology.
The following will be added advantages: (iv) relevant teaching experience at a university or comparable institution; (v) evidence of engagement in research including presenting scholarly work at seminars and conferences locally as well as internationally, participation in research teams and collaborative programs, participation in reference committees, and participation in peer review of manuscripts.(vi)Knowledge and understanding of teaching principles and practices. (vii) Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate effectively with students and diverse stakeholders.(viii) Evidence of governance and social engagement.
The curriculum vitae (CV) should contain a detailed list of the publications; clearly specifying titles of publications, dates published, name(s) of publishers and name(s) of co-authors if any. Publications should be categorised into: books, monographs, refereed and non-refereed journals, chapters in books, etc.
