The University of Botswana (UB), a premier state-owned tertiary institution dedicated to shaping the future through excellence, research, innovation and meaningful societal impact, invites applications from accomplished and suitably qualified professionals for the position of Gym Instructor (Part-Time) in the Department of Student Life and Experience.
The Gym Instructor is responsible for planning, organizing and delivering an appropriate range of training and programmes for individual clients and teams for the university. The successful candidate is responsible for assessing clients, compiling reports and developing their fitness levels, formulating and implementing cardio activates/aerobics and physical fitness programs to the student groups, sports teams, UB staff and the outside community, carry out advanced fitness assessments to client before he/she can prescribe exercise and responsible for the management of aerobics/cardio equipment and manage clients fitness data
Duties: The successful candidate will: (i) lead various types of aerobics programmes and activities including: cardio-internal, yoga, pilates, stretch aerobics, spinning, cardiac fitness, weight training and clinical cardio pulmonary rehabilitation programs and water aerobics; (ii) Monitor and enhance fitness and wellness by providing appropriate training programmes; (iii) Ensure all new users are inducted on the use of the gym equipment to prevent injuries; (iv) Ensure all the gym policies and procedures are followed; (v) share educational information with class participants; (vi) Provide progress reports to gym users, including guidance on health and lifestyle issues; (vii) keeps and maintain clients fitness progress data as well as keeping up to date records on safety and fitness trends; (viii) Undertaking administrative tasks, including participation in gym promotions and fitness support at the University; (ix) Supervise the use of gym equipment; (x) Assist with the equipment inventory and make recommendations for purchases; (xi) Regularly inspect equipment and facilities to ensure the effective operation of the gym, safety and cleanliness at all times; (xii) Participate in the identification and mitigation of operational risks; (xiii) Respond to customer/ stakeholder queries and inquiries related to area of expertise; (xiv) Undertake any other duties as directed by the supervisor in line with their role.
Requirements: Candidates should possess: (i) A Higher National Diploma or equivalent in Physical Education is required. (ii) A Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education or a related field is an added advantage. (iii) A minimum of two (2) years’ work experience. (iv) Certification in Fitness Instruction; CPR and First Aid is required.
Other Requirements: a Ability to lead and inspire students and gym clients. b. Ability to develop and manage schedules, planning lessons or workouts. c. Empathy and patience. d. Physical fitness. e. Excellent interpersonal, team-work and communication skills.
