The candidate will deliver an agreed proportion (%) of the department’s full-time duties for a limited period of 6 months. The proportion (%) will be determined based on the average number of hours of work per week that the candidate will be available to carry out clinical duties and teaching. The candidate may still hold another post at a different institution while serving in the full-time equivalent post at the University of Botswana.
Duties: the successful applicant will: (i) teach undergraduate medical students and postgraduate residents; (ii) engage with the university, profession and community; (iii) provide clinical care in affiliated hospitals; and (iv) carry out any other duties as assigned by the Head of the Department.
Requirements: the successful applicant should: (i) have a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS, MBChB, or MD degree) from a recognised institution; (ii) have a formal degree qualification as a specialist in Orthopaedic Surgery; (iii) be registered with or registrable by the Botswana Health Professions Council as a specialist in Orthopaedic Surgery; (iv) show evidence of engagement in research, including published journal articles, presenting scholarly work at seminars and conferences locally as well as internationally, participation in research teams and collaborative programmes, participation in reference committees and participation in peer review of manuscripts.
Added advantages: (i) experience of teaching at university or comparable institution; (ii) evidence of governance and social engagement.
The curriculum vitae (CV) should contain a detailed list of the publications; clearly specifying titles of publications, dates published, name(s) of publishers and name(s) of co-authors if any. Publications should be categorised into: books, book chapters, monographs, refereed and non-refereed journals, etc.
