FULL PROFESSOR/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/SENIOR LECTURER/LECTURER IN KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT (1 Position) (2 year Contract) - INFORMATION & STUDIES

FACULTY OF HUMANITIES - DEPARTMENT OF LIBRARY & INFORMATION STUDIES

VACANCY NO: IRC 1045 - FULL PROFESSOR/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/SENIOR LECTURER/LECTURER IN KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT (1 Position) (2 year Contract)

Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to: (i) teach at all levels in the area of Knowledge Management with particular reference to: a) Knowledge organisation in both physical and digital environments, b) Knowledge Management Systems, c) controlled vocabularies (thesauri, ontologies) for content representation and classification, d) ethical, legal and policy issues  in Knowledge and Information Management, e) policies and procedures for digitisation of Information Resources for access and preservation, f) Resource description (cataloguing and classification, g) Information retrieval, automatic classification, indexing, h) Knowledge of programming relevant to information visualisation, data mining, content representation and classification will be an added advantage (ii) supervise both undergraduate and postgraduate research projects, iii) provide academic leadership and mentorship to staff within the Department of Library and Information Studies in line with the vision of the University of Botswana as outlined in relevant policy documents; (iv) provide leadership and co-ordination in the fields of teaching, research and service for the Department; (v) carry out any other duties that may be assigned by the Head of Department.

Requirements:

The requirements for appointment at each rank are as follows:

Full Professor

Candidates should possess: (i) a Doctorate in  Knowledge Management, or relevant field; (ii) at least 5 years of teaching experience at a university or comparable institution; (iii) an excellent cumulative and sustained record of research and publications with at least 24 research products published by reputable publishers, 12 of which should be refereed/accredited journals in internationally recognised indexing databases; (iv) sustained research output: minimum of … peer reviewed publication every two years; (v) scholarly presentations at national and/or international conferences; (vi) be lead and/or single author in at least … refereed journal articles; (vii) publications should be spread nationally and/or internationally and across journals; (viii) some research impact, including but not limited to citations, the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, publications that are prescribed texts in other institutions etc. (required in at least … of the these); (ix) recognized as being of at least national research standing (e.g. reviewer for refereed/accredited national and regional publishers; Editorial board member of at least a national publisher in a relevant field; invitation as key note speaker at national and/or international conferences (required in at least … of the these); (x) Successful supervision/co supervision of research projects/post-doctoral research fellow; (xi) Evidence of social engagement and governance.  The following will be added advantages: (i) sustained research activity: on-going internally and/or externally supported research; (ii) research awards and other forms of research recognition, where appropriate; (iii) examiner/moderator/assessor for undergraduate and/or postgraduate projects nationally; (iv) and, effective and experience in running a programme/course, etc.

The curriculum vitae should contain a detailed list of published works, clearly specifying titles of publications, ISBN numbers (for books, book chapters and conference proceedings), dates of publications, names of publishers, name/s of co-authors if any and number of pages. The works should be categorized into books, book chapters, refereed journals, non-refereed works, consultancies and practical media projects.

 Associate Professor

Candidates should possess; (i)  a relevant Bachelor’s degree, plus a relevant Master’s degree and PhD in Knowledge Management, Library and Information Studies or Information Systems, Information Technology, Information Science or Information Management from a reputable university or institution; (ii) at least 5 years of teaching experience at a University or comparable institution; (iii) have a good and sustained record of research and publications with at least 12 publications, 8 of which should be refereed journal articles; lead and/or single authored in at least 6 refereed journal articles or book chapters; (iv) evidence of service to University, the Profession and the Community; (v) evidence of significant and  effective academic leadership through programme development and research; vi) Evidence of original contribution to the discipline, research and or scholarship, providing leadership in scholarship and or research regionally and  contribution engagement and governance

The works should be categorized into books, book chapters, refereed journals, non-refereed works, consultancies, and practical media projects.

Senior Lecturer

Candidates should possess: (i) a Doctorate in Knowledge Management  or relevant field; (ii) at least 3 years of teaching experience at a university or comparable institution; (iii) an excellent cumulative and sustained record of research and publications with at least 6 pieces of research products published by recognised publishers, 4 of which must be articles in refereed/accredited journals in internationally recognised indexing databases; (iv) sustained research output: minimum of 1 peer reviewed publication every two years; (v) scholarly presentations at national and/or international conferences; (vi) be lead and/or single author in at least 2 refereed journal articles; (vii) publications should be spread nationally and/or internationally and across journals; (viii) some research impact, including but not limited to citations, the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, publications that are prescribed texts in other institutions etc. (required in at least 1 of the these); (ix) recognized as being of at least national research standing (e.g. reviewer for refereed/accredited national and regional publishers; Editorial board member of at least a national publisher in a relevant field; invitation as key note speaker at national and/or international conferences (required in at least 1 of the these); (x) Successful supervision/co supervision of research projects/post-doctoral research fellow; (xi) Evidence of social engagement and governance.  The following will be added advantages: (i) sustained research activity: on-going internally and/or externally supported research; (ii) research awards and other forms of research recognition, where appropriate; (iii) examiner/moderator/assessor for undergraduate and/or postgraduate projects nationally; (iv) and, effective and experience in running a programme/course, etc.

Lecturer 

Candidates should possess at minimum a relevant bachelor’s degree, plus a relevant master’s degree and Doctorate in Knowledge Management, Information Science, Information Management or related field from a reputable university or institution. Knowledge in the use and application of ICT within the knowledge management/ information management environment is a pre-requisite. (i) Candidates who have teaching experience of at least one year at university level will have an added advantage. (ii) show evidence of engagement in research(iii) Evidence of Governance and Social Engagement in Knowledge Management or related fields, as well as teaching experience at a university or comparable institution will be an added advantage.
