DIRECTOR, DATA PROTECTION

The University of Botswana (UB), a state- owned tertiary education institution invites suitable candidates for the position of Director, Data Protection in the Office of the Vice Chancellor.

The Director, Data Protection (DDP) is responsible for overseeing the university’s data protection strategy and its implementation to ensure compliance with relevant statutory and regulatory requirements. The DPO will serve as the point of contact between the university and the Information and Data Protection Commission and ensure that the university processes the personal data of its staff, students, and others in compliance with applicable laws.

Minimum Qualifications; applicant must have attained;

  1. Masters’ degree in Law, Information Technology, or a related field.
  2. A relevant data protection professional certification is preferred.

Experience:

  1. A minimum of ten (10) years’ experience, five (5) of which should have been at middle management level.
  2. Higher Education experience will be an added advantage.

Professional Registration or license

Membership to a regulatory body is preferred.

Other requirements:

  1. A strong background in legal compliance, particularly in data protection law.
  2. Knowledge of the organization’s data processing operations and data security measures.
  3. The ability to promote a data protection culture within the organization.
  4. Experience in data protection impact assessments and risk management. Proficiency in managing data incidents and breaches.
