The University of Botswana (UB), a state–owned tertiary education institution, invites suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Director of the Centre for Learning and Teaching Innovation, in the Division of Teaching and Learning.
This strategic leadership role is responsible for driving excellence in the development and implementation of innovative teaching and learning strategies, ensuring high-quality online and in-person education. The Director will lead the development of transformative learning experiences, advance digital education, foster academic excellence, champion the integration of emerging technologies into teaching and learning practices; eLearning and learning design, and the enhancement of teaching and learning across the university.
The successful candidate will oversee the development and implementation of programs that enhance academic excellence, promote interdisciplinarity and ensure a seamless digital learning environment.
Responsibilities: The Director will: (i) lead the identification and development of new online courses and programs; (ii) Implement robust quality assurance processes to ensure effectiveness of course and program design; (iii) Facilitate discussions with faculty on innovative approaches to teaching and learning; (iv) Conduct regular audits of educational technologies to ensure efficiency and relevance; (v) Oversee pilot programs integrating emerging technologies into learning design; (iv) Deliver innovative, engaging online courses and high‑quality learning materials; (vi) Oversee the development of plans and programs that respond to academic development needs across the university and affiliated institutions; (vii) Oversee the development of plans and programs that promote effective teaching and learning practices, enhancing competencies of both students and faculty; (viii) Formulate policies and procedures to increase the effective use of instructional technology; (ix) Oversee proposals for external support of innovative initiatives in teaching, learning, and educational technology; (x) Lead staff development programs that promote excellence in teaching, research, and academic program development; (xi) Provide excellent customer service to ensure client and stakeholder satisfaction; (xii) Establish and maintain partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to enable effective delivery of the departmental mandate; (xiii) Resolve customer enquiries and issues promptly and efficiently; (xiv) Identify and address areas of improvement to enhance stakeholder experience.
Candidate Profile: (i) Substantial leadership experience; (ii) Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills; (iii) Expertise in educational technology and data-informed decision-making; (iv) Knowledge of Quality Assurance, Accreditation processes and standards; (v) Strong understanding of accreditation standards and educational assessment; (vi) Financial acumen and budget management experience.
Qualification & Experience Requirements: (i) A PhD/Doctorate in Educational Technology, Information Technology, Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Education Management/Administration, Quality Assurance or a related field is required. (ii) The candidate should have a minimum of ten (10) years of relevant professional experience, five (5) of which should have been at middle management level/ sectional head level. Higher Education experience is preferred; (iii) Membership of a recognised professional body will be advantageous.
