The current host of converging social and economic forces, both national and global require the University to re-position itself to be relevant and responsive to the changes that are taking place in its external environment. This requires a fundamental root and branch rethink of the University which will involve preserving the qualities that have built its reputation, while at the same time deciding what to change and possibly discard and what new things it should be doing. The end state will be a University of Botswana that is fit for purpose and ready to serve the needs and expectations of the nation and the future generations of its citizens.

Through its new strategy ‘Creating a Future for the Knowledge Generation,’ the University is thinking about that future and how it will position itself for systematic and enduring change.  To achieve this, the University wishes to invite suitable applicants for the following Executive positions; 

Job Overview

As a member of Executive Management Team and reporting to the Vice Chancellor, the incumbent is responsible for leading and directing the transformational formulation, as well as, the effective implementation of the University ‘s Teaching and Learning strategy that is aligned to University’s overall strategy and mandate, through the promotion of innovative use of educational technology and a comprehensive suite of modern pedagogic approaches that provide a rich and diverse learning experience to students. The incumbent will also ensure existence of effective and efficient student support services, conducive to student success.

Principal Accountabilities: The successful candidate will be expected to lead and undertake the following:

  2. Academic Planning

  4. Functional Management
  5. Leadership and People Management
  6. Teaching and Learning
  7. Academic Support
  8. Student Support
  9. University Governance and Management
  10. Project Management

Education, Qualifications and Experience: PhD qualification with substantial level of achievement as an academic covering teaching, research and professional practice as commensurate with a senior academic university leadership role.

Desirable Professional Standing: Professional graduate accreditations and memberships as well as continuous professional development certification.

Work Experience: (i) A minimum of 6 years’ experience at senior management level (Dean and/or Research Director and above) in a University (ii) Proven senior management experience in strategy, financial and human resource management in a University. (iii) Well established international and local network of academic-university related relationships across academia, business, and government/public/private organizations or industry. (iv)  A minimum of 6 years senior academic leadership level in teaching, learning and research.
