Duties: The successful candidate will be responsible for: (i) Supervision of all Technical staff to insure that their daily targets are met. (ii) Ensuring that technical staffs are well informed with the current experimental setups (undergraduate and graduate). (iii)Maintaining high standards and productivity in laboratories/workshops (iv) Instructing the team to demonstrate the use of laboratory/workshop equipment and experimental techniques to staff and students / practical classes. (v)Preparing the annual budget and advising academic staff on new experiments, purchasing of materials/ machinery and the state of practical classes and projects. (vi)Any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department such as compiling, photocopying and distributing tests and exams for all year groups, end of year examinations. (vii) Co-ordinating the use of practical resources and facilities and provide assistance and advise in the practical needs of the curriculum, including liaising with teaching staff and technical staff outside the department. (viii)Working with department technicians to design, construct, repair and modify apparatus and experiments and be able to assist graduate research as required. (ix) Carrying out risk assessments for technical activities on a daily basis. (x) Ensuring that laboratories are secured when a member of academic staff is not present. (xi) Ensuring proper storage and accessibility of equipment and materials when needed during experimental sessions and safe treatment and disposal of used materials including hazardous substances.

Requirements:  A higher Diploma or Degree in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering and/or Physics and Electronics and/or instrumentation, or related discipline with extensive experience in running and managing of Physics Laboratories and budget preparations, at least five years post qualification work experience, at least three years at a level of Senior Technician (excluding the period of full-time study) and a record of outstanding service and excellent administrative and supervisory abilities with adequate  IT skills.
