ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/SENIOR LECTURER:  SPORT SCIENCE (SPORT PSYCHOLOGY) (1 Position)

DUTIES: The successful candidate is expected to: (i) teach sport psychology courses at both undergraduate and graduate level and supervise research, dissertations and the internship; (ii) teach practical courses at the undergraduate level; (iii) participate in all academic and professional activities of the department including research and curriculum review; (iv) carry out any other duties as may be assigned by the Head of Department. 

REQUIREMENTS:

1) Associate Professor: Candidates must have (i) A Doctorate Degree in Sport Science/Sport Psychology/Related Field and (ii) At least 6 years of teaching experience in a University or comparable institution. (iii) An excellent cumulative and sustained record of research and publications with at least 12 pieces of research products (e.g. articles, book chapters, peer reviewed conference proceedings, etc.) published by recognized publishers. Eight 8 of these must be articles in refereed/accredited journals in internationally recognized indexing databases. The remaining 4 publications could be journal articles, book chapters, peer reviewed conference proceedings, etc. published by recognized publishers. An academic book may be equivalent to a maximum of 4 articles in refereed/accredited journals, depending on the quality and standing of the publisher; (iv) sustained research output: a minimum of 2 peer reviewed publications (e.g. journal article, book chapter, peer reviewed conference proceedings etc.) every 3 years; (v) sustained research activity; ongoing externally supported research (e.g funded or commissioned); (vi) Regular paper/poster presentations at national but also increasingly at international conferences;  (vii) be first author in at least one-third of the required journal publications, depending on the discipline expectations. There should also be evidence of mentorship of early career scholars/graduate students; (viii) Publications should be spread internationally and across journals; (ix) Recognizable research impact, including but not limited to citations, the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, publications that are prescribed texts in other institutions etc. (required in at least 2 of the these); (x) Research awards and other forms of research recognition, where appropriate. (Added Advantage) (xi) Recognized as being of national but increasingly international research standing (e.g. peer reviewing of new research proposals; reference in research committees; editor/guest editor/reviewer of refereed/accredited national and international publishers; editorial board member of an international publisher in a relevant field; invitations as keynote speaker at national and international conferences (required in at least 2 of these); (xii) Research collaborations with other institutions or organizations (required); Research collaborations with cognate disciplines in the University (required). (xiii) Successful supervision of 2 Masters Students or co-supervision of 4 Masters Students or supervision of 1 PhD student or co-supervision of 2 PhD Students/Postdoc research fellows. (Required where appropriate, otherwise a candidate should provide evidence that they could not find supervisees in other faculties); External examiner for Masters and/or internationally (required); (xiv) Evidence of service to university, the profession and the Community and evidence of effective academic leadership. Added advantage: The ability to attract research grants from international sources; A Multi-disciplinary experience in teaching, research, administration or consultancy work and, practical Experience in Sport Psychology Consulting.

2) Senior Lecturer:   Candidates should have: (i) a Doctoral Degree in Sport Science/Physical education/related field; with a focus in Sport Psychology; and); ii) a Master degree in Sport Science/Physical education or related field; iii) at least 3 years teaching experience at a university or comparable institution; (iii) an excellent cumulative and sustained record of research and publications with at least 6 pieces of research products published by recognized publishers, 4 of which should be articles in refereed/accredited journals in internationally recognized indexing databases. The remaining 2 publications could be journal articles, books chapters, peer reviewed conference proceedings, etc. published by recognized publishers. An academic book may be equivalent to a maximum of 4 articles in referred/accredited journals, depending on the quality and  standing of the publisher; (iv) Sustained research output: a minimum of 1 peer reviewed publication every 2 years; (v) Scholarly presentations at national and and/or international conferences; (vi) be lead and/or single author in at least 2 referred journal articles; (vii) Publications should be spread nationally and /or internationally and across journals; (viii) Some research impact, including but not limited to citations, the hindex, patents policy applications, peer reviews, publications that are prescribed texts in other institutions, etc. (required in at least 1 of the these; (ix) recognized as being of at least national research standing (eg reviewer of for refereed/accredited national and regional publishers); editorial board member of at least a national publisher in a relevant field; invitation keynote speaker at national/and or international conferences (required in at least 1 of these); (x) Evidence of governance and social engagement activities. The following will be added advantages: (i) Sustained research activity; on-going internally supported research; (ii) Research awards and other forms of research recognition, where appropriate; (iii) Examiner/moderator/assessor for undergraduate and/or graduate; (iv) Evidence of effective academic leadership; a multi-disciplinary experience in teaching, research, administration or consultancy work and Practical Experience in Sport Psychology Consulting.

Note: The curriculum vitae should contain a detailed list of published works, clearly specifying titles of publications, ISBN numbers (for books, book chapters and conference proceedings),dates of publications, names of publishers, name/s of co-authors if any and number of pages.  The works should be categorized into books, book chapters, monographs, refereed journals, non-refereed works, consultancies and practical media projects. The CV should also have a detailed list of courses taught and the levels for which they were taught.
