Associate Professor/Professor, Department of Civil Engineering

VACANCY NO. FET/CE 11/2018: ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/PROFESSOR IN PAVEMENTS AND MATERIALS ENGINEERING IN THE DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL ENGINEERING (1 Position)

Applications are invited for the position of Associate Professor/Professor, Department of Civil Engineering

Duties:  The successful candidate is expected to (i) teach undergraduate courses in pavement and materials engineering, plus any other substantive areas as determined by the Department of Civil Engineering; (ii) teach and supervise student research projects and thesis at both undergraduate and graduate levels; (iii) conduct research in their area of expertise; (iv) provide service to the university, the profession and the community; and (v) carry out any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department.

Requirements: Associate Professor: Candidates should have: (i) Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering plus Master’s  degree in Pavements and Materials Engineering or related field; (ii) at least 5 years university teaching experience or comparable institution; (iii) at least 12 publications, 8 of which are peer reviewed journal articles; lead and/or single author in at least 6 refereed journal articles or book chapters; (iv) evidence of academic leadership; (v) evidence of service to the university, the profession and the community; (vi) be registered or eligible for registration with a professional engineering body. A PhD in Pavements and Materials Engineering and ability to attract research grants will be added advantages. Applicants should clearly state their areas of teaching and research experience.

Professor: Candidates should have: (i) Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline plus Master’s  degree in Pavements and Materials Engineering or related discipline or related field; (ii) at least 8 years university teaching experience or comparable institution; (iii) a good and sustained record of research and publications with at least 24 publications, 12 of which should be refereed journal articles; lead and/or single author in at least 10 refereed journal articles or book chapters;  (iv) evidence of academic leadership; (v) evidence of service to the university, the profession and the community; (vi) be registered or eligible for registration with a professional engineering body. The following will be added advantages: a PhD in Pavements and Materials Engineering as well as ability to attract research grants. Applicants should clearly state their areas of teaching and research experience.

Applicants should clearly state their areas of teaching and research experience.  The curriculum vitae (CV) should contain a detailed list of publications: clearly specifying titles of publications, dates published, name(s) of publishers, name(s) of co-authors if any and number of pages. The publications should be categorized into: books, monographs, chapters in books, refereed and non-refereed journals, consultancies etc. The CV should also have a detailed list of courses taught and the levels for which they were taught.
