ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OR SENIOR LECTURER IN SURGERY

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OR SENIOR LECTURER

VACANCY: FH/SURG 1/2019

Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to: (i) teach undergraduate medical students and postgraduate residents; (ii) conduct research in his/her areas of expertise and supervise medical students’ and residents’ research projects; (iii) provide service to the university, profession and community; (iv) provide clinical care in affiliated hospitals; and (v) carry out any other duties as assigned by the head of the department.

Requirements:

Associate Professor - Paediatric Surgeon/General Surgeon: Applicants should have: (i) a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of surgery (MBBS/MBChB) or MD degree; (ii) a formal degree qualification as a specialist in Paediatric Surgery or General Surgery;(iii) credentials which satisfy registration requirements as a specialist in the stated specialty with the Botswana Health Professionals Council (BHPC);and (iv) at least five (5) years relevant teaching experience at a university or comparable institution; (v) an excellent cumulative and sustained record of research, publication and experience in supervising students’ research projects; (vi) at least 12 relevant publications, 8 of which must be peer reviewed journal articles reflecting a spread of national, regional and international journals and/or publishing outlets; (vii) Lead and/or single author in at least 6 refereed journal article or book chapters. Applicants should also show evidence of service to the university, the profession, the community and demonstration of effective academic leadership. The curriculum vitae (CV) should contain a detailed list of publications; clearly specifying titles of publications, dates published, name(s) of publishers and name(s) of co-authors if any. Publications should be categorized into: books, monographs, refereed and non-refereed journals, chapters in books, etc.

Senior Lecturer – Paediatric Surgeon/General Surgeon: Applicants should  have: (i) a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of surgery(MBBS/MBChB) or MD degree; (ii) a formal degree qualification as a specialist in Paediatric Surgery or General Surgery; (iii) credentials which satisfy registration requirements as a specialist in the stated specialty with the Botswana Health Professionals Council (BHPC); and (iv) at least three (3) years relevant teaching experience at a university or comparable institution; (v) an excellent cumulative and sustained record of research and publication and experience in supervising students’ research projects; (vi) at least 6 relevant publications, 4 of which must be peer reviewed journal articles reflecting a spread of national, regional and international journals and/or publishing outlets; (vii) lead and/or single author in at least 2 refereed journal article or book chapters.
