Applications are invited for the position of Associate Professor of Library and Information Studies.
Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to: (i) teach in the area of library and information studies with particular reference to: Theory and Practice of Cataloguing and Classification, Information Storage and Retrieval, Research Methods and Data Analysis, Content Management, Organizing Information, Marketing of Information Products and Services, and Foundations of Information Science; (ii) supervise undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate research projects; (iii) initiate, promote and participate in research activities in library and information studies; (iv) provide academic leadership and act as a mentor to junior academic staff; (v) raise/solicit research funds from funding agencies within and outside the country; (vi) develop collaborative relationships with other colleagues in academia and industry within and outside the country; (vii) participate in all academic and professional activities of the department; and (viii) carry out any other academic and administrative responsibilities as and when assigned by the Head of Department.
Associate Professor Requirements: Candidates should have: (i) a PhD in Library and Information Studies, Information Systems, Information Science, or Information Management from a reputable university or institution; (ii) at least 6 years relevant teaching experience at a university or comparable institution; (iii) an excellent cumulative and sustained record of research and publications with at least twelve (12) publications, 8 of which must be articles in referred/accredited journals in internationally recognized indexing databases; lead and/or single author in at least 6 referred journals or book chapters; (iv) publications should be spread internationally and across journals; (v) significant research impact, including but not limited to citations, the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, publications that are prescribed texts in other institutions etc., (required in at least 3 of the these); (vi) acknowledged by peers as being of national and international research standing (e.g. peer reviewing of new research proposals; reference in research committee; editor/guest editor/reviewer for refereed/accredited national and international publishers; editorial board member of international publishers in a relevant field; invitations as keynote speaker at national and international conference, (required in at least 3 of the these); (vii) research collaborations with other institutions or organisations (required); (viii) successful supervision of Masters and PhD students; (ix) external examiner for Masters and/or PhD theses nationally and/or internationally (required); (x) there should also be some evidence of early career scholars/graduate students mentoring; (xi) registered or eligible for registration with Botswana Qualifications Authority as an Assessor and Moderator; (xii) evidence of significant and effective academic leadership through programme development and research; (xiii) research awards and other forms of research recognition, where appropriate will be an added advantage.
The curriculum vitae (CV) should contain a detailed list of publications: clearly specifying titles of publications, dates published, name(s) of publishers, name(s) of co-authors if any and the page numbers. The publications should be categorized as: books, monographs, chapters in books, refereed and non-refereed journals, consultancies etc. The CV should also have a detailed list of courses taught and the levels (undergraduate or graduate) for which they were taught.
