Job Summary: The Administration Assistant, Research Online Systems is responsible for providing support in the day-to-day management of the University’s online research management systems. S/he plays an important customer service role in the frontend of research online systems, onboarding, training and guiding researchers on the use of the systems, ensuring customer uptake and utilisation of the systems. S/he will ensure Online Systems functionality by receiving and escalating all systems queries to the Online Systems Manager as necessary.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Conducts periodic research systems functionality tests to ensure 24/7, 360 availability and accessibility of services to the user research community and provides timely support.
  2. Onboarding the researchers on research systems; managing their access,  to systems, monitoring  and validating  data transfers between interfaces, from the platforms, testing new functionality, attending  to customer queries and ensuring seamless research online service provision.
  3. Training new systems and database users and promoting uptake of systems.
  4. Trouble shoots any technical glitches within scope of competence and escalates to the manager as necessary
  5. Perform any other duties as maybe required by the supervisor.

Requirements: A minimum qualification of a first degree in Bachelor of Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent demonstrable experience in providing technical support or assistance in a research or university environment. Experience in the development and maintenance of databases and research information management systems will be added advantage.

Competencies: Proven knowledge and application troubleshooting and solving skills, including the ability to identify and address technical problems. Proficiency in using and maintaining research systems and tools. Strong Interpersonal and Communication Skills.  Ability to work in multi-cultural settings, work in teams and collaborate with other research service providers to enhance holistic research support services. Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines; Ability to work independently and use own initiative; Ability to handle confidential information.
