Short Courses

Proficiency In French A1.1 A1.2 A1.3

Rationale

The world has become a global village where the French language has become an asset. French is the language of international relations. It is both an official and working language of most international organizations (UN, UNESCO, WTO, EU, NATO, International Red Cross, International Olympic Committee, International Court, etc.). French is also an official and working language of the economic hub of southern Africa (SADC). Furthermore, French is spoken by more than 220 million people across all continents, and especially in Africa. It is also projected to be the most widely spoken language with more than 750 million people by 2050 (Forbes report on study by Natxis Investment bank). French is also the official language in most countries of West Africa. Finally, French is said to be the second most useful language in the world of business (Bloomberg rankings; the economist, 2010). The ability to speak French therefore places one at an advantage in both the regional and international job market.
