RATIONALE
This on-line Portuguese language continues the previous on-line course PORTUGUESE: INTRODUCTORY SHORT COURSE (QECR level A1.1), at the beginner’s QCER level A1.1. It follows the Camões Institute Referential Portuguese as a Foreign Language (Referencial Camões PLE). It uses the Student Handbook Português em Foco 1 (QECR Níveis A1/A2).
It covers the three axes of the Referencial Camões PLE for this level, namely functions, grammar and notions at the A1.1. beginner’s level. These include Vocabulary, Grammatical Structure and Specific Objectives that are covered in the Student Handbook’s five units that are studied in this course (Unit 5 to Unit 9).
Students must participate actively in class and practice their language skills after classes.
PURPOSE

LEARNING OUTCOMES
This course covers the following subjects: how to ask for an address/ location, to ask for information, to talk about a project in the near future and to express preferences: Unit 5 – Onde fica a sua casa?; to ask about public transportation and its routes, ticket price and where to buy the tickets, to ask about the timetables, to ask for attention, to express incomprehension or ignorance, to give sequenced instructions: Unit 6 – Para onde vai o elétrico?; to ask about timetables, routes, services, additional information, length of a journey: Unit 7 – A que horas parte o comboio?; to describe the family, the house, the school and the city: Unit 8 – Como é a tua casa?; to invite, to express preference, agreement or disagreement, obligation or non-obligation, to reserve a ticket, to show availability: Unit 9 – Queres ir a um concerto?
Every unit introduces specific vocabulary and grammatical structure in order to meet the unit’s specific objectives.
TARGET AUDIENCE
- Adults 18 years and above.
- Non-native speakers of Portuguese.
ENTRANCE REQUIMENTS
Students must have taken the on-line course PORTUGUESE: INTRODUCTORY SHORT-COURSE (QECR level A1.1)
- Must have a minimum QECR level B2 knowledge of English.
- All students must be literate and numerate.
- This on-line course uses the Student Handbook Português em Foco 1 (QECR Níveis A1/A2).

- On-line class presentations.
ASSESSMENT
- On-line class presentations and oral participation of students.

CERTIFICATION
- There will be an attestation issued by the university for learners who complete the course.
