UB Awards Student Athletes and Stakeholders Today

University of Botswana through the Department of Culture, Sports and Recreation will hosts this year’s Sports and Recreation Awards at the Campus Sports Centre today (June 16, 2020). The awards are an annual event organized to honour and recognize sports and recreation student athletes for their achievements as well as stakeholders for their immense contribution to the success and recognition of sports at UB.

There are 19 categories in which to recognize and award students’ performances and achievements from 2018/2019 to May 2020. In the UB Sports Club of the Year category the female nominees are UB Kicks Football Club, UB Relics Basketball, UB Giants Softball while the in the male category the winner will be determined between UB Athletics Club, UB Relics Basketball and UB Hawks Football.

For the Sports Leadership Award, the nominees are Lefedile Molako (softball), Goabaone Tshupelo (basketball) and Sekgabo Seselamarumo (swimming). Sports Volunteer of the Year will see Tshiamo Supa (aerobics) slugging it out with Kabelo Palalani (medical team) and Oratile Oarata Kgokong (physician education) while UB Team of the Year Award may go to Netball, Volleyball or Karate in the female category and Darts, Volleyball or Karate in the male category.

The Volunteer Coach of the Year Award will either go to Anthony O. Akpata (basketball), Hassan Stoffel (football) or Lebopo Madome (swimming). In the Most Improved Club of the Year category, the nominees are Softball (female), Football (male-Hawks) and Swimming Team. Most Improved Team of the Year Award has Tennis, Volleyball (female) and Chess competing.

Best Freshman – Female category has Motlatsi Rante (athletics), Maungo Gaokaelwe and Chedza Lesedi Chilisa (netball) while Best Freshman-Male has Kealeboga Balemogi (athletics), Michael Hocker (athletics and Botsile Sakana (football).

For the Best LLC Sports House of the Year, Sports Person with Disability, Sports Journalist of the Year, Media House of the Year and Director’s Award categories, there are no nominees. However, in the Spirit of UB Sports category, the nominees are Nelly Sama Reid (UB Kicks), Kgotla Ntsie (softball) and Onkarabile Kevin Ntshimane (UB Hawks).

The Ub Sports Woman of the Year has Motlatsi Rante (athletics), Jennifer Mokoka (football) and Thato Seomile (tennis) while Sportsman of the Year has Kealeboga Balemogi (athletics) Botsile Sakana (football) and Cliffton Meshack (athletics).

Clifton Meshack, Jennifer Mokoka and Kealeboga will slug it out for the biggest award, UB Sports Star of the Year before the ceremony wraps up with an Appreciation Award.
