Sefalana Trading has donated soccer boots worth P15 000 to University of Botswana ladies soccer team, UB Kicks. The donation was handed over to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Norris, by Sefalana Group Finance Director, Mr Mohamed Osman.
Speaking during a short handing over ceremony at UB on September 23, 2019, Mr Osman said Sefalana Group was keen on supporting the University in many different ways. He said he also had a personal interest to make sure UB fully exploited its potential to grow.
Mr Osman observed that this was not the first donation from the Group as they had donated computers to the visually impaired students before and their intention was to complement such by hiring visually impaired graduates from UB.
He said this was an exciting time for women soccer in Botswana, noting that there were a lot of untapped skills which Sefalana Group wished to tap into using whatever means possible to promote various sporting codes in the country.
As such, Mr Osman said the donation of soccer boots was a starting point and urged UB Kicks to work hard to succeed in that Sefalana Group was committed to supporting successful ventures.
Expressing his excitement at the Sefalana Group donation, Professor Norris said the University of Botswana was moving towards becoming a high performance centre for sport and the launch was scheduled for end of next month.
Professor Norris said the intention was to holistically improve the performance of all the UB sporting codes. The University is also mulling the possibility of setting up a football academy for youngsters besides supporting the ladies soccer team to join professional ranks, added the Vice Chancellor.
