The University of Botswana exhibition stall was the centre of attraction at the Human Resource Development Skills Fair and Career Clinics held at Ditshupo Hall on March 19-23, 2018. Hundreds of potential students frequented the stalls to enquire about available courses, with several of them applying on the spot. The University brought along all its nine faculties and support service departments for a comprehensive outreach programme.

The fair was held under the theme: Guidance for Human Development, Gateway to diversifying Botswana’s Economy as a sequel to the Francistown fair which was held on March 6-9, 2018. The Fair and Career Clinics bring together strategic partners and stakeholders under one roof to reflect on strategic issues of the education and training sector.

UB Director of Public Affairs, Ms Mhitshane Reetsang, hailed the initiative by Human Resource Development Council (HRDC) as a good move that enabled institutions to reach out to prospective students.

"We received a lot of interest from an impressive number of students. We were overwhelmed as we dealt with two long queues every day," revealed Ms Reetsang.

She further said the UB staff were well prepared to serve the many youngsters who were eager to learn more about the institution and courses offered. The University offered potential students career guidance, taking into account their areas of interest, and further advised them on the programmes to apply for. The high turnout at the UB stall was testimony to the fact the national institution offered quality and relevant programmes, and was still an institution of choice.

"We are still a premier institution. If you study at UB, your chances of being admitted anywhere in the world are guaranteed," stressed Ms Reetsang. She said the fair helped to capacitate students and accorded them the opportunity to make informed choices.

Ms Reetsang added that the career fair was not just about recruiting new students: "It was about taking our services to the people. We offered members of the public and potential students other services such as psychological counselling as well as legal advice and services."
