Commemoration of World Theatre Day 2018

The Visual and Performing Arts Programme (VAPA) in the Faculty of Humanities will join the World Community to commemorate the World Theatre Day 2018 on Tuesday March 27, 2018. This will be the first time VAPA and UB commemorate this day.

Synopsis

world theater dayThe World Theatre Day was established in 1961 by the International Theatre Institute (ITI), which falls under UNESCO. It is celebrated annually on March 27th by all ITI centres and the theatre loving community around the world. On this day, various performances and other artistic events are organized to celebrate theatre in its various manifestations. One of the most important things on this day is the circulation of the World Theatre Message which annually is written by a different artist of international stature, reflecting his/her thoughts on theatre and the culture of peace. Several African artists have in the past provided this message, including Wole Soyinka in 1986. This year, which marks the 70th anniversary of ITI, five such messages have been written, each by an artist from the five regions of the organization. For the Africa region, the message has been written by WereWere-Liking Gnepo, a multidisciplinary artist, from the Ivory Coast.
