The Faculty of Science at the University of Botswana (Department of Geology) seeks to appoint a Lecturer in Structural Geology starting by August 1, 2010. The Department, which currently houses eleven academic and five support staff, has a particular strength in sedimentology, hydrogeology, hydrochemistry, hard-rock geology, exploration and environmental geophysics. Other relevant areas covered within the Department, include structural geology and tectonics. We have access both at the University of Botswana and in the country, to a wide range of mechanical and analytical equipment that are required to support research in these areas (mineral separation laboratory, engineering geology equipment, palaeomagnetic laboratory and geophysical equipment, EMU with EDEX and ICP-MS). The Department is a teaching and research-orientated unit, with an emphasis on publication in top-quality journals and the supervision of graduate students. Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to: (i) teach courses in Structural Geology at undergraduate and graduate levels as well as Field Geology courses; (ii) supervise undergraduate and graduate research projects; (iii) undertake research in the field of specialization; (iv) provide academic leadership through the enhancement of teaching, research and community service or engagement activities of the department; (v) facilitate partnerships internally and externally; (vi) serve on committees within the university and external professional organizations; (vi) carry out any other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Head of Department. Requirements: The candidate should: (i) have a Ph.D in Structural Geology; (ii) show evidence of engagement in research. Experience and Field Geology and teaching will be added advantages.
