Description : BGCSE/equivalent with a minimum of grade C in English Language. Applicants intending to study Social Sciences or Science subjects must also have a minimum of grade C in Mathematics or Computer Science. Applicants with at least one-year work experience in a library or related institution will be preferred. Applicants possessing a Diploma in Library and Information Studies from this University or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution may be admitted to Level 300. Applicants with at least one-year post Diploma work experience in a library or related institution will be preferred. Applicants in possession of a Certificate in School Library Studies plus Diploma in Secondary Education from this University or equivalent recognized qualification will be considered for Level 200. Entrance Qualifications The normal requirements for entrance to the BLIS single major degree shall be: a) A pass in the Diploma in Library and Information Studies from this university or its equivalent from any other recognized institution. b) Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education or equivalent. All candidates for admission must have a minimum of credit in English Language. c) Candidates with at least one year's experience in a library or related institution will be given preference. d) Candidates with a Diploma in Library and Information Studies of this university or its equivalent from any other recognized institution may be admitted directly to Level 3 of the program. e) Candidates with a Certificate in Library and Information Studies of this university or its equivalent from any other recognized institution may be admitted directly at Level 2 of the program. Programme Structure The BLIS is a full-time Programme extending over eight semesters in the single subject Library and Information Studies leading to the award of the Bachelors Degree in Library and Information Studies. Progression from Semester to Semester Progression from semester to semester shall apply according to Regulation 00.9 Assessment and Examinations Evaluation of students’ performance in BLIS shall be based on continuous assessment and a formal examination at the end of each semester. The weighting between continuous assessment and formal examination shall be 2:3. Award of the BLIS Single Major Degree Candidates must obtain a minimum of 120 credits including all core courses and optional courses or elective courses, and twenty General Education Courses. In addition, Regulation 00.85 shall apply.
