SECOND Call for Abstracts
The Aim of the Conference is to bring together national, regional, and international professionals and stake holders to exchange ideas, experiences, achievements as well as research and development in the area of Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS), and related disciplines.
Sub-themes:
1. Quality of Life
2. Innovations and Technology
3. Entrepreneurship
4. Gender Issues
5. Cultural Issues/Studies
6. Education
Oral and poster presentations in each of the sub-themes should cover any of the following areas:
a) Family and Parenting
b) Textiles & Clothing
c) Housing & Interior Design
d) Human Development
e) Consumer Studies
f) Foods and Nutrition
g) Technology
h) Entrepreneurship
Conferences objectives
1. To share information about the family in a changing world.
2. To sensitize the public/professionals/organizations on the potential contribution of FCS to the family and community.
3. Examine the role of FCS in stimulating technological, innovative and sustainable development.
4. To explore challenges faced by modern families and identify viable/sustainable solutions.
5. To deliberate on the strengths and opportunities available to families regionally and internationally.
6. To facilitate international networking on issues affecting families worldwide.
Conference deliberations will be conducted in English only.
Submission of Abstracts and Papers
Abstracts are required for paper and poster presentations.
Layout Requirement
Abstracts and papers must comply with the following requirements.

Oral presentation
· Time allocation for oral presentation is 20 minutes.
· Guidelines for PowerPoint Presentation: In the interest of time, speakers are, therefore, advised to use about 15-20 slides for their presentation.
Font and Font Size
· Font: Try Tahoma or Arial bold
· Font sizes: Try sizes 24-28; avoid sizes lower than 20 bold
· Use short sentences, even phrases.
· Use of bullets is encouraged.
Poster submission
Indicate the full title of your poster/abstract, followed by the names of authors underlining the name of the presenting author. The poster piece must include a background, method, results, and conclusion to your study.
Posters must be prepared electronically on an A1 size (594mm x 841mm). Font size must be 24 point or larger.
The poster is a visual presentation. Therefore we suggest that:
- There should be about 20-25% text, 40-45 % tables, figures and photographs and about 30-40% empty space.
- Double space the text.
- Where possible, convert tabular materials to graphic display.
- Use only about 2-3 colours for emphasis; overuse is not recommended.
- Choice of text and background colour very crucial; both should not clash.
- Use short sentences, simple words and bullets to illustrate discrete points.
- Text should be large enough to be read from at least 2m away
Publication
Papers that have been submitted will be reviewed and considered for publication as part of conference proceedings. Abstracts from authors who have not registered will not be included in Conference Book of Abstracts.

· Acceptance notification: 31 May, 2011.
· Registration deadline: 31 July 2011.

TOURS:
One tour to Bakhurutsi is planned for the participants. Bakhurutsi is a place where Botswana culture is displayed to its best.
ACCOMODATION:

PASSPORT AND VISA REQUIREMENTS:
Participants are expected to handle visa applications individually. They can visit to the nearest Botswana embassy/Counsellate in their country to apply for the visa.
Letter of attendance will be issued to assist with their applications.
SPECIAL ARRANGEMENTS:
- Participants are requested to inform organizing committee their arrival and departure dates along with flight details. Our reception committee will be at the airport to receive participants.
- Participants are requested inform organizing committee if there are any special dietary requirements (vegetarian, halal food).
