Korea Corner officially opened

Dated : 17.08.2017

The opening of a Korean Corner at the University of Botswana is a firm indication of how committed the South Korean government was in maintaining strong relations with Botswana, said Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs, Professor David Sebudubudu at the official opening ceremony of the Korean Corner at UB on August 16, 2017.

Professor Sebudubudu commended South Korea Ambassador, who is based in Pretoria, South Africa, Mr Yeon-Ho Choi, for the kind gesture of donating ten laptops and a television set to the University.

He assured the Ambassador that South Korea made the right choice to partner with UB because that would nurture and further strengthen existing relations between Botswana and his country.
Mr Choi said there was great expectation on the South Korea Corner in terms of sharing knowledge and culture. He revealed that the South Korean government had already established more exchange programmes which would otherwise be in place next year.

“Healthy relations between Botswana and South Korea will help in the expansion of business relations between the two nations,” remarked Mr Choi.

The Ambassador was delighted at President Lt Gen. Dr. Sir Seretse Ian Khama’s last visit to South Korean, noting that the President’s noble gesture expanded the relations between Botswana and South Korea even further.

The Korean Corner is located at Block 253, Room 20 and boasts various equipment such as computers and a television set with the latest technology which Korea donated to UB to help set up the Corner. The Corner will also be equipped with traditional arts and crafts as well as Korean reading material. It will also be used for various events such as Korean film, food, language and culture festivals, among others.

Dignitaries who attended the official opening ceremony included the Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Kgomotso Moahi, Deputy Vice Chancellor Student Welfare, Professor Martin Mokgwathi, Deputy Vice Chancellor Finance and Administration, Mr Mendel Nlanda, and other staff members.
