Visit by Fujian Medical University to discuss implementation of MoU

Dated : 20.06.2017

University of Botswana Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Kgomotso Moahi, has said the University of Botswana is honoured to collaborate and partner with a prestigious institution such as the Fujian Medical University of China.

Professor Moahi was speaking during a courtesy call on her by a four-person delegation from Fujian Medical University of China on June 20, 2017 which discussed the implementation of a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the two universities in October 2015.  The delegation was led by the Vice President, Professor Xu Lin; and included the Dean of the Overseas Education College, Professor LiLing Huang; Research Fellow at the key Laboratory of Gastrointestinal Cancer, Dr JiaCheng Lin; and the Deputy Director of Party Committee Office, ChaoXin Huang.

“We pride ourselves on the partnerships that we enter into with different universities and we are honoured that a prestigious university like yours has chosen to collaborate and partner with us, and we look forward to the fruits that will arise from this partnership,” said Professor Moahi.

The MoU is expected to benefit the School of Medicine and the Faculty of Health Sciences by fostering collaborations in areas of research, staff and student exchanges, exchange of information, books, scientific publications, study programmes, joint projects, identification of suitably qualified candidates for deployment, recruitment and employment between the two institutions.
Consequently, the meeting with the Vice Chancellor further sought to identify areas where immediate implementation might be facilitated for the benefit of the University of Botswana and Fujian Medical University of China.

Professor Moahi said as UB’s main focus was “to be selective in terms of the partnerships that we have because we want to have memoranda of understanding that are living, that are being implemented, rather than agreements that are just on the shelves and not yielding anything”.

As such, she said they expected that the MoU between UB and Fujian Medical University of China would yield results especially given the long standing and fruitful relationship between Botswana and China in different areas of the economy and other spheres of life.

Other University of Botswana representatives who attended the meeting included the Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor David Sebudubudu; the Dean of Health Sciences, Professor Yohanna Mashalla; and the Dean of Medicine, Professor Matthews Tanko.
